Roaming the streets of New York at eight in the morning is never easy, especially when you're pissed off and on an empty stomach. The key to getting around in this city; keep walking.
Keep walking and don't stop.
Preferably at a fast pace, and avoid unnecessary confrontation.
Pretend to be busy, that you know what you're doing and where you're going, even if you don't and you should be fine.
So that's exactly what I did.
I turned and walked with my head held high, at a reasonably quick pace. Reaching into my bag, I took out my butterfly versace sunglasses and slid them onto my face, keeping a constant walking pace.
I was frustrated, of course. I was still carrying this stupid ring around, with no one to sell it to.
As beautiful as it was, and as much as I loved it, It drew too much attention, and I still had no idea who it was for. For all I knew it could have a tracker in it, and I needed it gone asap.
I had no destination in mind, I walked where my legs took me - which just so happened to be another small, eerie alleyway.
I walked towards the middle of the alley and immediately sat on the floor with my legs crossed and my back against the wall.
I took the ring off and twirled it around in my hands, admiring it's beauty. Closing one eye, I held it out infront of me, observing the reflection and refraction of the sunlight in the diamonds.
Closing my eyes, I continued to fiddle with the gorgeous jewel in my hands, while humming a tune from one of my favorite movies.
I stayed like that for a while.
Content.
Peaceful.
Until the sound of a car pulling up made me open my eyes and look in its direction.
Two men emerged from the car; one from the drivers seat and the other from the passenger side.
I tuned my head to the side and stayed in my position on the ground, observing their movements as they walked around the car and back the way they came, leaving the car where it was.
They were dressed in all black suits, with balaclavas covering their faces.
The car was a beautiful jet black Ferrari, with tinted windows and red outlined wheels.
It was gorgeous. It was my kind of car.
My brain told me to stay put. Not to be so stupid and steal a car in broad daylight. Besides, those men looked serious. There was no telling what they'd do to me if they found me after I stole their car.
But did i care?
No.
I didn't.
I rose from my space on the ground, placing my ring back onto my ring finger, and bolted towards the car.
I quickly grabbed a bobby pin I had stashed in my hair and knelt down and began to pick at the car lock.
It's a good thing I work well under pressure because I had opened the door in less than three minutes.
I pulled open the door and jumped inside. I began looking around to find something to help me start the car, when I noticed something very strange.
The keys were still in the car.
But I didn't think too much into it.
I turned the car back on, put my foot on the gas and sped out of the alley.
I had no idea where I was gonna go, but i had to get away from this area. I kept the radio off and drove as naturally as I could.
With the expensive car, fancy wheels and tinted windows, I was bound to attract some type of attention in this thing. Driving fast would have only raised suspicions and God forbid I get pulled over.
That would really be bad.
I decided that silence was no way to be in a car, so i sung the first song that came to my head.
I've been taking on all this baggage
i done lost so much weight yeah
had me thinking that i was average
when you're really to blameHow you gonna throw it away
How you gonna sit and act like it was nothing Yeah
How you gonna throw it away
How you gonna make it so damn hard to explain
How you gonna throw it all away
And say my lovin' was not the same Yeah
How you gonna throw it away
Throw it away, throw it awayI had to stop singing because i forgot the rest of the words. Well.. that, and a random feeling of dread which filled my belly like a flood. I dismissed the feeling and told myself it was nothing.
I continued to drive, keeping my eyes on the road, a smile on my face. but that smile disappeared
when I felt an ice cold press on my temple, and heard to awfully familiar click of a loaded gun.My smile dropped even more when I heard the voice of a strange man come from behind me.
"What the FUCK are you doing!?"
Oh shit
Maybe I should have checked the back seat...
