Laying on the floor, I was abandoned once again as I was left to my own thoughts that haunted me. I felt my head fall limp as I passed out from exhaustion.
I don't know how long I was asleep, but when I awoke, I was in The Commission medbay. Great. I didn't have the energy to contemplate on what had just went on with Five, so I decided to leave that alone for now. Only, that wasn't for long.
I opened my eyes, seeing the last person I wanted to talk to right now. The Handler. I immediately groaned out of annoyance at how my life has been going as of late. She gave me her classic psychotic smile, that could give any normal person nightmares. "Ah, you're finally awake! Good, good. I'm glad you didn't have to see that... tragic accident in the tube room."
"What?" I asked, confused to what she meant.
"Number Five... he put grenades in the tube and briefcase room. I thankfully got away in time to not be blown to bits, but he got away. Speaking of him, I know you didn't necessarily complete your original assignment. And now I see why! You would make such a better assassin, y/n. It seems you already have the combat down, so we wouldn't need to train you." Her grin suddenly grew wider.
"That's why I would like to offer you the job of assassinating Five Hargreeves."
I immediately shook my head, "no! no. I'm not going to murder the only person who's shown me true kindness." I said determined to not betray him even more than I had already.
"Oh, but y/n, dear. I know you desire to leave The Commission. To have a true, happy life. If you do this, I will allow you to leave headquarters and go to whatever timeline and wherever you'd like. I'd be happy to let you keep that younger body of yours too if you so wish." The Handler's offers were so tempting. She did want all those things. She wanted to fall in love with someone, have children, have a life of her own—but she didn't want it to be without Five.
Just so very recently, she'd discovered newly harboured feelings towards him. If she was to have the life she desired, y/n didn't want to be so selfish as to leave out the one person who she cared about most. Although, if she took this opportunity—not to carry through with the job—she could tell Five about their plans to murder him, and possibly get plenty of information on the apocalypse to help prevent it. Being on the inside could be a huge benefit for them.
That is, if he would forgive her. Would he even let her speak to him again? She had to try. It was her last resort, and she wasn't going to lose Five over something so trivial. With her help, they could at least stop the apocalypse. Even if he would never forgive her for her actions, the least she could do is help him if he'd accept it.
