tw//talk of murder

All he had to do was throw the small prince. Technoblade stood on the royal balcony, the orders of the king ringing through his head.

"Wilbur shall be the only heir to the throne. He is a threat to the future of the kingdom. Kill him." the king had ordered. Techno had bowed his head and walked off with the commoner's new baby. The king's son. Wilbur's half-brother. Techno's nephew. He stood on the balcony. All he had to do was throw the child off.

But... he couldn't. This child- his kin, the king's kin- he had his whole life ahead. He was barely 3 days old. His hybrid features were showing already. Why did Phil have to fall in love with a commoner? And a hybrid?? Techno supposed killing the child was Phil's way of showing mercy. After all, anybody could look at him and tell he wasn't Kristin's child. He would be bullied and never truly respected by the kingdom. It was the same thing that happened with techno. The king had an affair, people disregarded techno in favor of Phil. Techno grew jealous. He planned to kill the beloved crown prince. Before he could do anything rash though, he ran away and became the missing prince.

This kid would have the same childhood of bullying and resentment and jealousy, and maybe instead of backing down and running away like techno, this child would go mad from his jealousy and kill his brother.

But still, Techno couldn't do it. He couldn't murder his own kin in cold blood. The version of him that would do it without question was long dead.

So techno hid the baby in his cloak and went back into the castle.

"Did you carry out my order, Technoblade?" the king asked. He had been crying, perhaps for the loss of his son, or perhaps for guilt. Techno didn't have the guts to ask.

"Yes, sir. It is done," Techno said, dipping his head.

"Good. thank you, techno. Please see my schedule is clear for tomorrow and keep Wilbur occupied. I need a day to grieve," he said, his voice cracking. Techno dipped his head once more before hurrying off. This was his first time ever disobeying the command of the king, let alone lying to him. He just needed to get this child away from the castle. He went out to the garden and climbed the fence. He didn't want to go to the main gate and be questioned about where he was going at such an hour. He landed heavily on the ground and pulled his hood up over his face.

"Uncle Techno?" Wil's tiny voice questioned from behind him. Shit. it was almost midnight, what was Wilbur doing out here?? Then he remembered the brunette's horrid habit of sleeping in the garden when he had nightmares. Techno turned to face his nephew.

"Hello little prince," he said with a smile. It wasn't fooling Wilbur. He was always too smart for his own good.

"What are you doing outside the fence?" the child asked, tears forming in his eyes. "Are you running away? What happened?"

Oh boy. Tears fell down the small child's face and Techno's heart swelled.

"Oh, wil, no, nothing happened. Everything's alright, I'm gonna be back soon, I just have to take care of something," techno explained. He wished he could tell the prince about his little brother, but it would complicate so many things. Wil was never told about Phil's affair.

"What is it that you have to take care of so late?" the prince asked. How was techno supposed to answer that? Techno wasn't a man of lies. Most times he didn't see a point in lying. He wasn't good at it. And at that moment he was at a loss for words. He couldn't think of any convincing lie. So with a sigh, he told the truth.

"You have a baby brother wil. But I have to take him far away. And you can never speak of him to your dad, understood?"

"What? Why? Can I see him?" Wilbur said, his eyes filled with a million more questions. Techno unbundled the sleeping baby from his hiding place in his cloak and presented the baby to the young prince.

"You can't say anything about him to your dad because your brother isn't supposed to be alive right now, and you're not supposed to have any idea he exists," techno explained.

"He doesn't look like me," Wilbur said, reaching through the fence and gently touching the small tail sticking out from the blanket.

"He's only half your brother, he's not your mother's child. Only your fathers. But that doesn't make him any less of kin."

"Why do you have to take him away now? He's only small. Can't you take him later?"

"No more questions, little prince. I need to go. Don't let anybody know you know about your little brother. Goodnight, Wilbur."

Techno turned away from Wilbur and the castle, ignoring the child's protests. He ended up walking all the way across the kingdom. The houses here were run down, some were abandoned and unlivable with graffiti everywhere and broken windows. He let out a grimace. He didn't want the baby to grow up here but he needed to be far, far away from the castle. Techno picked out the least run-down of the houses and set the child on the porch.

"I'm sorry you have to grow up here instead of the castle. But I'm sure someday, you'll find your way back to us little prince," techno said as he cupped the baby's tiny face in his massive hand. He pinched the baby's cheek and he started to cry. Then he knocked on the door as loudly as he could, and then, he ran as fast as his legs would carry him.
