Upon picking up on a strange repetitive rusting noise accompanied by someone's heavy breathing sounding in the background, the young woman sitting locked up in her room paused her reading to focus on her sense of hearing. The noise was gradually getting louder, and it seemed as though it was coming from beneath the floorboards in the corner of her room.

Abandoning her books, the young woman wasted no more time and hurried towards the futon that lay waiting for her on the other side of the large bedroom. She hastily reached beneath her pillow, her slender fingers wrapping around the hilt of the dagger that lay hidden there and gripping it tightly as she prepared herself for what was to come. Her narrowed eyes never left the spot on her floor from which she figured the noises were coming—she focused on the expertly disguised trapdoor that blended in with the dark floorboards and hid a secret passageway leading from her room straight to just beyond the walls of the Choi Residence.

Creeping over slowly, she tensed up as the heavy breathing became even louder, the trapdoor beginning to shift upwards as though someone was hitting it from below. Pointing her dagger at it, she crouched down right in front of the opening and waited.

The trapdoor shifted again. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest, and she drew in a long breath in an attempt to soothe the ache.

It shifted again, a low huff behind heard from beneath it—was her heart meant to beat this fast? Surely that wasn't healthy...but then again, when had she ever been healthy?

And again, it shifted—was the ground shifting with it, or was she just about to pass out from the stress?

One last push from within and the trapdoor sprung open, a figure heaving their upper body out of it with a pained gasp at the same time as the young woman lost her balance and fell from her crouching position onto her backside with a surprised yelp. Her dagger remained pointed at the trapdoor's opening, however, resulting in the figure coming face-to-face with it's sharp tip and recoiling away in shock once they recognised what was being pointed at their nose.

Of the two young adults now present in the room, the intruder was the first to overcome their shock and break the silence. "A dagger?" the young man spoke, raising an eyebrow quizzingly while glancing between the weapon and the young woman in front of him. A hint of teasing seeped into his voice as he followed up with, "My, my...are you flirting with me right now, Choi Kyung-mi?"

Eyes narrowing dangerously once again, the young woman skilfully flicked her wrist and watched in satisfaction as the intruder raised his hands in surrender while his expression fell, fear replacing the arrogance that was glinting in his eyes just a second ago.

"I can quite easily confess too if you like, Jang Wook," she spoke lowly while lightly pressing the dagger's blade against his exposed neck. Her lips curved into a sweet smile, but a fire blazed in her eyes. "Would you like that?"

Of course she wasn't being serious. Her actions were just a warning—a warning for him to stop with his stupid antics. As much as she had come to hate him over the many years that they had known one another, Kyung-mi would never actually harm Wook. Not intentionally, anyway. She would argue with him endlessly over the smallest of things and would never miss the opportunity to throw an insult his way, but she would never put him in a position where his life was at risk.
