A/N: Hope you enjoy this bonus chapter. It's set back when Layla and Meg were in high school. A few weeks before Layla came out to her friends.
Part one
{Layla}
"Noooo. No, no, no. You can't do that." I yell, smashing the buttons on the controller hoping it will undo the last two seconds.
"I think you'll find I can and just did." Jas gloats, as her avatar crosses the finish line ahead of my character. She throws her hands up in the air in celebration while I chuck the controller on the coffee table in front of me.
"That's not fair. I was winning the whole way. You get one little power up and totally screw me over." All the way around I was winning then Jas drove through a power up pack and hit the gold. One minute I have the finish line in sight, the next I'm frozen in place. Unable to move my character. Pressing the buttons does nothing as the freeze timer counts down my punishment. All I can do is watch as Jas's character and all the bot's fly past me.
I want to be annoyed but I can't help it, I crack up laughing at Jas's luck. Plus, the way she's acting is hilarious. She stops the celebration and we start laughing just because we're laughing.
"Glad we could do this today; I feel like I've barely seen you this year." Jas says, when we start to sober.
I freeze from the guilt. Unlike my character in the game though there isn't a countdown til I unfreeze. Taking a sip of my drink gives me time to sort my head out.
"It's been a crazy year. With us all in different classes it makes it harder to co-ordinate. You're still my best friend though."
"Well duh, of course I'm your best friend."
"And I'm still yours?"
Jas takes a second to look like she's pondering. "Well, I have taken applications for the position but I suppose I'll stick with you for now."
Throwing a sweet at her causes us both to start laughing again.
"Okay, okay, I give. You're stuck with me as your best friend for life. Agreed? No matter where we end up, if one of us needs the other we're there."
"Agreed." I answer without a second thought. Why would I need to, it's Jas. She's been my best friend forever. Yes, I may be keeping a big secret from her right now. A secret that is really the reason we don't meet up as much as we used to. "Now, come on, I need a rematch."
"You're ready to lose again so soon. Well, it's your pride at stake." She shrugs.
With a roll of my eyes, I pick up the controller and get ready to try again. Only as the game is chosen my phone rings. A quick look shows Meg calling me.
"I'll be right back." I say standing up. Before I leave the room though I quickly turn back to Jas. "Do not start the game without me. It doesn't count if you start the race and my character is stuck at the start line."
"Well, you better hurry up then."
Once out of ear shot of Jas in the living room, I answer the call. "Hey you." I say then instantly cringe at the sappy voice I used. Man, I've got it bad for this girl.
"Hey." Meg says, a smile present in her voice. That alone brings a smile to my face. "So, I've had an interesting afternoon with Dan."
"Yeah? Jas and I are playing video games. She's cheating." Meg's chuckle comes down the line. "So, what happened at Dan's?"
"I've got some bad news and then some more bad news. Not sure which one you'll think is worse. One is about me and the other you."
"Okay, well, I'm intrigued now." I say cautiously. Walking out the back door to Jas's house and leaning against the wall.
