The former soldier moved to the left as people smothered themselves in two groups - one on the left side of the room and the other on the right as their leader appeared at the foot of the door ready to feast.
Just like every other day, but this time it seemed different to Roselyn.
He strolled down the hall of the overall silent people aside from the music playing in the back, his legs crooked with white socks pulled over them. They were proudly put on display, Colum MacKenzie having seen his legs as a challenge and not a deformity that held him back.
This alone showed to the former veteran that Colum was a fighter, and a proud one.
"Masters William Talbot and Fingal Duncan, will ye stand forth?" A man called out, hands in front of him as the Lord of the house sat down on his chair. Roselyn looked between Claire and her new friend - her name she had forgotten as the two men began speaking in their native tongue.
She was just a little bit confused on what was happening, and hoped she'd be able to translate.
"They're neighbours," the redhead informed, turning her head slightly before lowering her voice as amusement rang through it. "Having a dispute over a cow."
"A cow?" Rose asked with a raised eyebrow, the twitch of her upper lip not going unnoticed by Claire who too had found it amusing.
Such simple times, arguing over an animal like a cow.
Colum spoke back to the two Scottish men with something the crowd must have found funny as they let out their boisterous laughs and it bellowed through the room, Roselyn letting out an awkward chuckle.
"He says 'Well, let me see-"
"It's alright. I have the feeling something would be lost in translation," Claire interrupted, giving her friend a kind smile whereas Roselyn felt a frown form on her face.
"I wanted to know what was said," she grumbled out, throwing a silent fit to her oldest friend.
As she did so, her blue eyes locked with another pair of blue eyes as the ginger gave a cock of his head in question to the foreigner's behaviour. Upon seeing that she had been called out by someone so easily, Roselyn straightened up and bashfully looked away from the young male.
There was no way she was going to continue to act like a child in front of a man who was as attractive as him.
"Kyle Ferguson, step forward and present yourself."
This happened for a while, men fighting over property and other such things that eventually bored Roselyn - who wanted to leave the room and sleep, until a middle-aged man dragged a young adult woman with him into the clearing the people had made so they could speak their turn to MacKenzie.
The scene made Roselyn immediately concerned, seeing the fearful expression on the girl's face and chewed on the inside of her cheek.
The girl grunted in disagreement, her hand coming up to her mouth to cover it slightly as she translated the angry man's words.
"Her father accuses her of loose behaviour," she admitted after a second of pause, and Roselyn's eyes fell on Jamie's who had tensed up at the accusation.
Roselyn wasn't sure if he was tense because of what had happened in his past, or because he was involved somehow.
Roselyn narrowed her eyes in confusion as Jamie crossed his arms and rocked on the back of his feet. She couldn't quite determine the exact reasoning of his behaviour.
The whimpering of the woman continued to bounce on the walls, increasing the white-haired woman's need to protect the girl from whatever the man is trying to get her in trouble for.
