Justin smiled down at his phone, he'd been watching the same video for the last 10 minutes. His heart swelled every time her laugh echoed through the room, a chuckle rumbling from his own chest as the camera zoomed in highlighting the gold flecks on her brown cheeks
He hadn't been happy in a long time.
The past year was a nightmare, with all the bad press and getting arrested, it was hard for him.
Not to mention the people who looked up to him. He wasn't living up to his fans expectations and that bothered him more than any article or sinfully edited interview.
After the smoke cleared from his last 'scandal' he turned his life around. He was working hard to be a better person, or at least as society had defined the term.
He changed his focus from selfish pursuits to his music. Diving head first into his next album and pushing out his movie after the tour. He'd even taken up working with different charities, advocating for them and giving his own personal time but still nothing felt good enough anymore.
He was going through the motions, more empty than ever.
And although he was trying, changing, the world didn't care.
Everyday more more hate mail poured in, more critical tweets, more long winded articles about the stereotypical fuck up who thought he was above the law.
Maybe he should quit, just give up. Go back to his life of partying and bull shit because at least that was his own decision, his personal prerogative. But he couldn't, he loved making music, he loved inspiring and saving people with a beat. But it was so much on his shoulders, all this responsibility, all those eyes on him.
Worst of all he'd lost his spark, his passion to write songs and everything that came out was trash. Justin struggled with finding it again. Finding himself, as if he had ever really known who that was to begin with.
And then, he met her. Set his eyes on her radiant smile and saucy attitude and was hooked. Cliché as it was, everything changed. He didn't have to try with her, he didn't have to pretend. She saw him and she knew. There were no words for the amount of relief he felt at that kind of understanding from another human being.
Finally he closed his photo app and opened another. Mentally he prepared himself for the less than pleasing comments. Scrolling down Instagram feed, he felt his body stiffen as he spotted a picture that had his fans in a tizzy. He ground his teeth as he looked down at her beautiful face. His phone began to buzz angrily, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, they were all going off with notification. They became loud washing roar but nothing was louder than the small voice in his head.
What was she doing with him?
