Arden's POV:
If only the life I wanted wasn't just a dream.
I wish I could say I had a peaceful morning, but I didn't. I had anything but a peaceful morning.
I minded my godamn business tryna get them cheerios for breakfast until I saw this ungodly sight of my best friend Kehlani and her boyfriend monkey dancing on the couch that everyone in this fucking house uses.
"KAI!!"
"Omg Arden I didn't know, you were awake," Kehlani said, panicked
"Well I doubt you'd be playing with your WAP in our living room if you did."
"Hi, Ardie", Ben said calmly.
"You know what I can't deal with this shit I can't be late for my first day."
I walked away from those delinquents and went to the kitchen to make myself my cereal.
I live with my two best friends, Kai and Sydney, who work from home. Sydney has an art and design degree, and she's currently working for a graphic design company.
Kai is crazy good with computers and has a computer science degree. Still, she's working as an editor for some big-shot YouTuber now because she doesn't feel ready for a more formal job.
Both the girls have good jobs that pay well, but I, on the other hand, get paid
in spit and insults compared to their income. I work three jobs Starbucks, Lidl, and Tesco.
And yet I never seem to have enough.
I'm supporting my mom and my little brother Julian
I can't explain how much I love them. Mom never fully recovered after dad died. She was depressed, always working back to back. She never had time for Julian, so I started working my ass off so that Julian could have a good childhood.I barely managed to pay the rent. My friends always offered to cover for me and always said they understood. But they didn't. Their families were upper middle class. They could afford stuff that my family couldn't even dream of. They had money to fall back on; I didn't. If they ever run into trouble, their families have the money to help. My family was relying on me.
So I decided to get another job, hopefully, one that pays well.
And I nearly shit myself when I saw a job that I was technically qualified for. Still, no one in their right mind would higher me for had accepted my application, and I was going to be Joseph Quinn's assistant.
Syd helped me pick my outfit.
Because Ben was still destroying that Kaiussy. I wanted something professional but sexy. like I'm drop dead
gorgeous, but I'm also the baddest bitch you can have."You excited to be working with daddy Joseph," Syd said while violently rummaging throw my closet.
"Don't call my boss, daddy, please."
"But he is daddy."
"Sydney," I said
"Just the facts"
"Soooooo what are you trying to do," Sydney said mischievously
"What do you mean," I said, confused
"Working for someone as fine as Joseph y-"Stop right there, Syd", I cut her off. "I'm not gonna get with my rich and famous boss and live happily ever after. This isn't a Wattpad story."
Right guys
"You're a pretty girl Ardie."
I'm not shy at all. I was a pretty, no gorgeous woman, and I was well aware. I was dark-skinned African-European with dyed ginger hair, big dark brown eyes, beautiful dimples, and a curvy body. Like I said, gorgeous.
"Thank you, Syd."
Just then, Kai stumbled i.n
"Did you have fun?" I said sarcastically
"Yeah, I did. Sorry you had to see that"
"Good you should be"
"You're paying to get that couch cleaned," Syd said
"Fuck cleaned," I said, "we need a new couch."
"Fair", Kai responded
"Can I at least explain myself"
"NO!" Me and Sydney said in unison
"Fair enough"
"Were tryna pick out an outfit for my first day?" I said
"Hmm," Kai said
Then she picks out the perfect outfit"
Cute," Sydney said
It was modest but cute, not exactly what I was going for, but I was happy with the outcome.
"I love it," I Said enthusiastically.
I put it on. I rushed out. We had to meet to negotiate some other details like when I'd be working. And I was already gonna be late.
We met in a cafe. I rushed in and saw the most stunning man I had ever seen.
