"But be warned; the paths ahead of you are painstakingly dangerous. Be cautious my children. You are to save me, so I cannot come, to save you."

Jason felt guilty as he pushed open the front door. He looked back on his sister, talking, yelling, glaring at... nothing. He watched as Cecil talked to air, he watched her as she pointed at the potted plants on their front yard.
He wasn't guilty because his sister was a lunatic. No, he was guilty because he was also, a lunatic. Ever since Jason was six and Cecil was five years old, they have had strange habits. Cecil sees a woman from time to time, and she occasionally talk to her. But Jason heard voices in his head. He would hear a man nagging at the back of his mind. Cecil told him about her demons, but he never told her his demons. Jason tried to maintain the older brother status. Cecil was scared. She didn't know the woman, but she knew her. So he kept his demons in, never letting anyone know. Je took care of Cecil. But that wasn't enough.
Soon their mother noticed, she sent Cecil to therapy...intensive therapy. It made Jason burn with guilt. If only he hadn't played the big brother card, Cecil wouldn't have went through three painful years. He cringed as he remembered how he would visit her during Saturdays and see how she was always in panic. Her eyes would beg for death, the torture she went through everyday was worse than any death.
After three years, she went back home. She was cured. Or so their mother thought. From time to time, Cecil would still see the woman. Jason caught her one time talking alone in her room. It was a stab in the heart to see Cecil look at her brother with wide, panic filled eyes. Cecil tried to lie, she was practicing a line, she was singing, she was talking on the phone, she was... she was...
But Jason saw right through it. Anyone would, if they stuttered and looked everywhere as they lied. Jason convinced Cecil that he would never tell anyone, he wouldn't send her back to hell. Cecil believed him, he told her all about their conversations, and Jason would believe her. Because he was like her. But he still couldn't tell her about his secret, he didn't know why.
Maybe he was scared, what if he went through the same things that his sister went through. He was too much of a coward. He shook his head as he went inside the living room.
And was greeted by three monstrous dogs.
Jason stood frozen on his spot as three large beasts scented the air in his kitchen, unaware of his presence. They were black and their skin, stone-like. They were once majestic beasts carved from block of onyx. Their eyes red like blood stones and their teeth... their fangs... sharp as knives and white as pearls. The dogs would at least be as big as a tiger.
Jason backed away slowly, making sure he makes no sound to catch the beasts' attention. Yet he stumbled, held a table for balance, but the fine vase sitting on it shook and fell with a sickening crash on the floor. The beasts looked behind them to see a petrified boy ready to charge.
For the door that is.
So he did, but all the time one thought lingered in his mind.
Cecil...
Then as he ran through the living room, pass the flight of stairs, he crashed right to her. With a grunt they collapsed on the floor, rubbing their swollen heads. Jason heaved a sigh of relief when he saw his sister safe. But the relief was only momentary, A growl erupted from behind them and caught Cecil's attention.
She let out an ear-piercing scream, and Jason hugged her, both waiting for their doom to come. Only it didn't. Something sparked Jason's curiosity. It wasn't the fact that they weren't dead yet, nor what those beasts were. He wondered.... why he could smell Mrs. Huckleberry's strawberry pie next door? And why in the world could he hear the grass blowing in the wind?! Cecil felt it too, she could feel their dusty carpet under her trembling hands, they were softer, much softer, she could see every inch of their house, from the ants accumulating in one corner, to the flecks of dust in the wind.
But the thing that shocked the siblings was that everything was too slow. Really slow. Like a buffering video, everything went slower and slower. The table that should have fallen already was flying inches from the ground, its contents; like papers and figurines are the same. The sheets of paper floating in mid-air, the ballerina figurine that Gina has given her 'daughter' was levitating a few inches from its doom. The monsters, were not safe from the freezing, unlike Jason and Cecil. They watched with masked terror as the three dogs lunged but paused, so close yet so far.
Then Jason saw it, at first he thought it was a beam of sunshine. But who the hell was he kidding? It was too solid, too bright, too handsome? Cecil watched with wide eyes as a man wearing golden armor sped through their door way, smashing the door to smitherins, and race through the small space between them. In a flash he smashed The monsters into tiny pebbles of black.
Slowly everything returned to its pace; the table fell, the papers flew, the figurine crashed. Jason could no longer smell the delicious pastry next door, Cecil could no longer see the dust in the wind. But something still wasn't normal. Then only did Jason see, that not only was the man's aromor golden, but also his skin. The Rowlands siblings looked at the golden man standing in front of them as he beamed proudly of his new achievement, whatever that is.
"Cecil and Jason?" he asked with a deep velvety voice.
They nodded, unsure of what to do.
"Afraid you would have to come with me.... if you want to live that is."
.......
