Chapter 1
I turned my black camera to the side slightly, letting the light adjust on the screen before pressing the small, circular button on the top. There was a bright flash, temporarily leaving black spots in my vision before it cleared up again. I lowered the device for a moment, waiting for the picture to finish printing. In seconds, a thin sheet of paper slid out from the camera. After waiting a bit longer, I inspected the result.
It was of a boy. Well, a poster to be more precise. It was one of many that were plastered to the board in the plaza near my school. People of all ages, genders, races ect. were photographed and put here. These weren't normal people, though.
These people were Rogues.
Rogues were bad news. They cause all kinds of trouble. Many times, someone ends up dead after a new poster is added. It is always causes an uproar, seeing as this town is so small. Everyone knows, or has at least met each other. Yet, despite the new security measures being put into place, the city seems to shrink every year.
I held the photo up next to the actual poster. The boy was walking on the side walk. He looked young, maybe fifteen or sixteen, although he must be older as the poster was taken two years ago. His head was turned to the left, as though he was trying to make sure no one was watching. His mouth was in a straight line, his brows furrowed. Dark brown hair hung down on his forehead, just barely touching his eyebrows. The picture was dark, indicating that it was taken near dusk.
I'm not quite sure why I took this picture. He looked so normal yet...dangerous. His pose looked like he would jump at anything that moved and destroy it. The way his hands curled into fists with his shoulders tensed. It was an interesting photo.
Trust me, I'm not some creep who stares at people. I love photography, and as a photographer, I always analyse the world around me. It's automatic.
I don't usually capture pictures of people, mostly just nature. But this one was different. A different one to add to my collection.
Cameras like mine were actually kind of rare. My aunt, Cami, gave me this one. Only a handful of people in the legion of Kona own one.
Kona is actually a part of Nastoria. Nastoria is the top half of what used to be called North America, but over a century ago was renamed. The people in Nastoria have been at war with the people from the bottom half, Sabia for control over both countries.
Nastoria is split into two Legions, (literally split right down the middle if you looked at a map) named Deschi and Kona. We happen to live on the very far reaches of Kona, which is on the right side of the country.
"Hey! What are you doing?" A voice called. I jumped a little, shoving my picture into my bag before whipping around to see who had spoken.
An old woman stood on street, hands on her hips. Her face was contorted into a scowl. I eyed her warily, stopping at the badge on her shirt. Three letters were visible on the front: G.S.O. Great, a Government Security Official.
