The deep Abyss

Part title

Cora dreamed. She was running away from a shadow that threatened to swallow her whole. She heard a voice whispering that she was no longer worthy of being a woman, a mother, a countess, a wife.  She believes every word the voice tells her.  "You should leave this life. No one will miss you" the voice said. "Robert will find love and someone else to carry on the name. You're ruining his life."
"No! I can't leave him, it would break his heart!"
"You already shattered it into a million pieces by not giving him an heir, killing his son."

Cora nodded, getting up from the bed but not realizing it. She knew what she had to do.

Robert turned over, reaching to place his arm on Cora's back but she wasn't there. He sat up with a start to see her walking around the bed to the door.

"I must do this for him," she was saying.

"Cora?" He asked, getting up. He walked over to stop her from going out the door. Her eyes were open but unseeing. Her face, flushed. "Darling? What's the matter?"

"I'm sorry. I will fix your problem. You won't need to file for a divorce my husband," she said cupping his cheek and giving him a soft kiss on the lips.
Robert was flustered " But what are you saying? Cora? Answer me! Wake up! Cora!"
She blinked then walked around him and out the door.
He rushed after her as she went to the gallery, pausing at the top of the stairs as if contemplating something. Before he could move she flung herself down the stairs.

"No!" His cry brought his daughters from their rooms.

The pain woke Cora from her dream. She couldn't move without feeling any pain. She heard Robert calling out to her but she couldn't answer him. Finally she felt his hand on her back. He spoke gently like he was afraid to scare her although he sounded scared himself so she opened her eyes. "Robert... I'm here my darling. What happened? Why am I in so much pain?"

Edith ran past. "Shall I call Clarkson, Papa?"

"I believe we'll need an ambulance," He said. I don't know that we should move her ourselves."
