It was the end of the school day and Kiara was in detention. After punching Jake in the face and her homeroom teacher walking in on Kiara and her fist dripping with blood, she was sent to the principal's office. As soon as the head of the school found out, her dad found out. Let's just say he wasn't proud that his daughter punched another student.
After news went around that Kiara punched Jake O'Connor in the face, everyone stayed clear of her. It wasn't like that Kiara was an angry person, she just had trouble controlling her anger. It was always been a problem since she was young. She would always get into fights in her elementary. Her father always said it was just a phase but after getting into multiple fights in middle school, he had enrolled her into anger management classes. Kiara always skipped those.
When Calum heard whispers around the school that Kiara had punched someone, he couldn't believe it. Why would a girl like Kiara punch someone? She seemed so innocent in Calum's eyes. But then again, Calum didn't know her really well. He first found out from Michael at lunch.
"Did you hear that Kiara punched Jake in the face?" Michael asked, biting into his pizza.
"What?" Calum set down his burger and fully focused his attention on Michael.
"Yeah, Janet texted me about it today."
"You have Janet's number?"
Michael shrugged. "Yeah."
Calum turned around to look at Janet's table, he was disappointed to find her sitting alone, eating a salad and reading. She always seemed to be doing that. He wondered where Kiara was. While Calum was pondering where Kiara was, Kiara, in the meanwhile, was up in her father's biology classroom. Her father found out around lunch time that his daughter punched someone. He ran a hand over his face as his daughter sat across from him at the table.
There was no one in class besides them. And well, Luke, who was finishing up his biology lab. He tried so hard not to ease drop but it was really hard to focus on a lab while people were talking.
"Kiara, how many times have I told you not to fight in school?" Jacob asked. "This is probably the tenth fight of you school life."
Kiara shrugged embarrassed. "I don't know." She picked on a piece of loose thread off of her sweater she was wearing.
"You know exactly how many times, how am I going to explain to your mother about this?"
"Please don't tell her," Kiara begged. "I honestly don't want mom to find out."
"I won't tell your mother but you are grounded for a week."
Kiara thought that wasn't bad of a punishment since she rarely left the house anyways.
"And you will have detention all this week as well," Jacob said, sipping his water.
"But I need to work on my Social Studies project."
"You shouldn't thought about that before you punched a student in the face," her dad said, "Now go on, I have to help Luke with his lab."
Luke's ears perked up at his name. Kiara sadly smiled at him as she exited the classroom. And now here she was, in detention, alone. There was a teacher in the front of the classroom but she wasn't paying attention to anything. If Kiara smoked weed in front of her, the teacher wouldn't even notice.
Kiara sighed as she leaned back in her chair. Suddenly, the door to the classroom opened and in walked Michael Clifford. One of Kiara's eyebrows raised as he sat down at the desk next to her. He nodded silently at her as he adverted his eyes forward. Kiara wondered what Michael did to put himself in detention. Michael was used to being in detention, he practically goes everyday.
After ten minutes of sitting there in silence, the teacher got up and walked out of the classroom without saying a word. Just as the classroom door shut, Kiara turned to Michael.
"What are you doing here?" Kiara asked, crossing her arms over her chest. Michael shrugged.
"I don't want to go home," he answered. Kiara narrowed his eyes at him.
"You don't want to go home?"
Michael shook his head. "Plus, I knew you were going to be here so I didn't want you to be alone."
"How did you know I would be here?"
"Don't act like you haven't punched the biggest dickhead in school."
Kiara smiled. "He deserved it."
"Yeah, Janet told me about it," Michael smiled. He had a hint of blush on his cheeks. Kiara couldn't help but notice this.
"Can I ask you something Michael?"
"Sure, what is it?"
"Do you like Janet? And be honest, I care a lot about her."
Michael was silent for a moment. "Yeah, I think I do."
Kiara's whole face lit up. "You do?"
"She's really cool, she's not like most girls you know?"
Kiara nodded.
"So can I ask you a question?" Michael asked, running a hand through his blue hair. "Do you like Calum?"
Like Michael, Kiara was silent for a moment. She honestly didn't know. I mean, Calum was obviously her friend but she didn't know him that well to like him. She didn't even know what his favorite color is or when his birthday is. Kiara didn't even know if Calum have any siblings.
"I don't know," Kiara answered honestly.
"You don't know?" Michael asked, confused. "What do you mean you don't know?"
"I mean like, I don't know him that well to like him. He's really cool and everything, I like how we have the same music taste but I don't know him."
Michael nodded, understanding. "I got Janet's number so that's how I get to know her better."
"I don't even have Calum's number," Kiara said.
"Do you want it?"
Kiara nodded. Michael got his phone out of his pocket and told Kiara, Calum's phone number.
"I'll text him to know that you have his number," Michael said. "And oh, can I ask you one more question?"
"What?" Kiara asked, putting her phone away.
"Can you help me dye my hair?"
