Corrine took a deep breath as she looked out onto the podium stage. This was what she had been working for her entire life, but doubt filled her head as the moment came upon her. Life in America wasn't always the kindest to her, and a worry filled her that the diplomats in the chamber would be the same.
"Feeling nervous Ambassador?" asked an older man in a suit standing next to her. He was holding a small pocket watch, adorned with a small blue crystal.
"Oh," Corrine was caught off guard. "Is it that obvious?"
"I remember how it felt during my first speech." The man looked at Corrine with a faraway twinkle in his eye, "The United Nations were quite shocked by the existence of another world, let alone listening to someone describe it"
Corrine was caught off guard "You're from Elwroh too?"
The old man looked down at his watch, and smiled. There was a twinge of nostalgic sorrow in his voice. "I was born here in America, but I visited Elwroh shortly after the first portal opened. It's a wonderful place"
"Earth is a pretty good dimension too you know." said Corrine with a laugh. "There's technology that even the greatest magesmiths struggle with. Not to mention the amount of different types of food you can get in just one town"
"You think that highly of America?"
"No place is perfect. While an Earthen resident may see the magic spells and weird monsters of Elwroh as new and exciting, to me it's just day to day tools and hazards."
This conversation calmed Corrine's nerves. Speaking to the leaders of Earth scared her, but she was chosen to be the UN's Magic Ambassador for a reason. She knew of struggles and benefits of both worlds. The realm of Elwroh was her birthplace, but the lands of Earth had become her home.
The old man left to go take a seat, as Corrine was called up to the podium.
"My name is Corrine Blackthorn, and as the first Magic Ambassador elected by the leaders of this world, I wish to use my position to improve life on both sides of the interdimensional portals."
