Solomon relished knowing he had control.
He felt he could be the most despicable person in the whole of the Union right now. Letting the sack brush against his legs as Hannah crashes and fumbles around inside of it. The thick, hemp fabric stopping her from escaping. And all for what?
Hannah Miller was to be hung in the morn anyway. Weighed down by gravity instead of by heavy chains that dug into her sides.
Clink! Clink! Clink! He believed the sounds ringing in his ears were those of victory. For Solomon saw how all his sinning was allowing evil forces to put him in power for the first time in his life. It was made a thousand times more visceral by knowing now that he has a motif for doing this. That even the towns people would side with him now.
'I saw Sarah Fier and Hannah Miller', 'I saw them with the devil', 'I saw Sarah Fier with the witch'
Solomon had heard Union's bitterness and hatred even before hearing about the girl's dalliance. All his hours of meticulous planning just happened to fade once he'd heard a graphic account Sarah going down on Hannah. Something which Solomon had never believed the god damn virgin would do. It made him wonder if maybe there was something more to the way that Sarah would smile at Hannah. Making Pastor Miller's wife shudder. And he wondered if the pastor's wife was aware of how her 'Holy Hannah Miller' is maybe not so pure after all.
So, he put the name on his wall; 'Pastor Miller' Knowing it could be the one thing that breaks down the pastor's family. He'd even played at being a noble man! Fighting the one he'd possessed and telling everyone to 'stay back!' He'd even told Sarah Fier that she hasn't summoned the devil. That you have to extend your hand to it.
The idle stars glittered in the sky as he treaded closer and closer to his house. Hannah's thrashing around and clink clinking of chains had quickly subsided. Mentally fatigued from the whole day. She felt like she was trapped in a hour-glass. Just waiting for all of the sand to drip drip away.
He only took it as Hannah submitting to him. Something which made him chuckle to himself as he opted to drag the bag with her in instead. Letting it drift against his wooden floor before lifting the latch and throwing the bag down into his tunnels. Following through after hearing a huge thud that he believed would surely take Hannah Miller out.
Sarah Fier wasn't as sure about Hannah's whereabouts. She'd entertained the idea that Hannah was already looking for her, and that they'd run away together and adopt some kids, yet it seemed like all she was running off was fantasy. Afterall, she was still a teenager. Freshly 18 and the thought of going further with Hannah and loving Hannah was all that coated her mind. Of course, it was all made 100x worse as she had a little taste of what it could be like.
She rode one of the nearby farm's stallions. One she'd helped Solomon to tame last summer, so was familiar enough with to know this horse's temperament. Everything in her was screaming to her that going to the widow would be the worst thing she could do. That maybe the widow truly is a witch like some in the village already believe. Yet where she should've been reigning in the urge to get as far away from her life here as possible, she was instead rushing even faster to find the book and make a deal.
To make it so that Holy Hannah Miller can remain 'pure' and 'untarnished' by her.
Yet Sarah goes to the widow and finds her dead with the book from before no longer anywhere near the widow's potions and herbal remedies. And she almost trips over the dead body when she feels overwhelming dread seep over her; she couldn't have summoned the devil on accident...it must've been someone else. Most of all, she can't save herself or Hannah.
