Flash backs

Diana sobbed into Steve's chest as he held her fluffy blonde hair comfortingly. He bit his lip to stop him from crying, she was crushed. Her heart broke into a million pieces.

"I thought she's supposed to be the gifted one! I thought she'd help me" diana sobbed and screamed

"She's just a kid, diana"

" I never got to be a kid. Never! I looked after everyone I met! Even the adults. And I still do that to this day. So don't bullshit me Duvall !"

"How?" Steve calmly spoke looking at Diana's wrist, "How did it happen? I might be able to help if you just tell me!" Steve begged

"What will you do?!" Diana was still sobbing from heartbreak

"I'll just... be here." Steve ran his hand through the girls messed up hair

"Forever?" Diana calmed down slightly. Her nose running and her eyes bright red.

"Forever" Steve wiped her tears

"Okay... okay." There was a few minutes of silence as Diana calmed herself down.

"My mom and dad are dead" Diana blurted. Steve simply looked at the girl and nodded his head. He really was there.

"Keep going" Steve nodded once again a to reassure the girl

"When I was 8, I think, uhm... I was on a skiing trip. With my family". Diana choked up steve gripped her hand and smiled.

"It's alright. Just take a breather" Diana nodded.

"my mom was already dead... my uh, my dad killed her." Diana was furious at the thought of it, " but we were on this stupid skiing trip. Me my dad and my brother" Diana cleared her croaky throat. " we were on the forbidden part of the hills because my dad said wit would be an 'experience'" Diana played with her hoop earring to calm down, "next thing I know there's an avalanche"

" I'm sorry Diana" Steve gave the girl an empathetic look

" it's okay. My dad was engulfed with the snow where as me and my brother were trapped in an air pocket" Diana looked at Steve to make sure he understood, " it's crazy I know." Diana laughed." It was tiny. And we had went without food for at least 3 days...the water droplets started to fill our pocket slowly. Next thing I knew, I was watching my brother die. I layed there with his dead corpse for 2 days until he saved me" Diana looked to her feet that were bouncing up and down rapidly

"Just get it all off your chest dude" Steve encouraged

  "I was put into the lab. El was there. I remember her. She saved me. Some rabid guy who helped out had tried to kill everyone and I was his in a locker and he didn't find me."

"Dia-"

"I'd just fucking stand there. Like a complete utter idiot. Watching my friends bleed, or choke. Watching their last- their last breath. I- I was just a kid." Diana felt a single tear drop down her cheek on for he Floor

   Steve slowly reached his hand towards Diana's trembling one and held it with both hands.

   "It's okay. I'm still here. I'm still listening" Steve's voice shook

  "okay."

  "Go easy on the kid okay? She's still figuring herself out" Steve smiled at the shaken up girl

  "Yeah. I'm sorry" Diana apologised

  "It's alright"
