Chapter 1: Nothing different ever comes
It was an cold autumn day. I was just standing there, cold; lifeless; lost, as the thumping noise of a casket falling into place. Lightening struck, imitating the sound as if mocking me, soon after the pitter-patter of rain drops could be heard, one after the other slowly growing more and more rapid, dripping from my messy hair, at this point I couldn't tell if the ground was wet from my tears or the rain.
I stood there for what felt like forever, as the preacher begins the closing ceremony. I couldn't hear a thing I was to busy, regretting all that had happen that day,
"Why him?" The words keep repeating over and over in my head.
"Tell me why. Why was it fucking him!?!"I screamed at the top of my lungs overwhelming everyone causing what felt like an infinite silence
"Out of them all, it had to be him?"
I felt a familiar touch, a soft warm embrace, one I have not felt in such a long time, I turn to trace the source of the sensation, for a brief moment I forget all my grief.
"Mom?! I think excitedly, you can't be, why are you? Where have you....?" I suddenly find my way back to reality.
" Come now Lucan, let's go" Vanessa pleaded, just looking at her I can feel her pain, every tear streaking down her cheek each telling a different story.
My sadness turned to rage, I smacked her hand off my shoulder. "Your not my mom! I don't know why you pretend to be! Your nothing like her and never will be!" I start walking through the rain.
10 Years Later
A cold autumn breeze "graces" me from my window. I could feel the energy build up in my body. The will to get up and start my day slowly overtaking my laziness. I mumble an incoherent phrase and crawl out of bed. With a stretch I run around my tiny abode, giving my mind a bit of a jolt before reaching from my bed, into my "kitchen" and taking a piece of bread. I quickly shove it in my mouth and get dressed before darting out the door.
As I open the door I feel almost blinded by the sun, but I continue like any other day. I straighten my clothing, and lazily wave good morning to Vanessa as she tends to the garden. I run down a steep hill I'm greeted by countless Vanderlin servants all I can hear is a gust of wind and a hasty"Morning, Young Master."
Some of of these people being my age, makes it kinda weird to be called master, I ignore it all the same. I stand before our gate, a man suited in heavy armor says to me.
"Morning Young Master".
"Sir Knight Gregory, I keep telling you to drop the title."
"As soon as you stop using mine."
"Your title comes from years of service. Mine comes from me being born."
The armored man chuckles, opening the gate.
"Have a good day Lucan."
"And to you Sir Gregory."
I make my way passed the clock tower "Another Day." I say, glancing up to read it. 7:45. I pass by the local deli, I pick up a couple sandwiches and drop of a small bag of Roules, saluting to the shopkeeper.
"Ah, Lucan glad to see you made it on time." Professor Elaine reprimanded me
"Well the early bird catches the worm." I say in a equal tone, taking my seat silently after.
Hours passed, time seemed to move slowly when I simply wait for it to pass. Reflecting anyways seems to speed it up but anything that's not...hurtful seems to all blur together. The way I see it is that to have repetition without any variation is a fate worse then death. To relive everything on a daily bases is to submit to the mundanity of life. In the backgrounds I can hear the Professor review the fundamentals of magic.
"....while creatures of intelligence have the natural ability to manipulate the energy within things, creatures without can still manipulate but not to the extent..."
She covers this every class. It's tiring to constantly deal with this. 'Do what you gotta do to advance.' That's how we convince ourselves to press on.
"Mr. Lucan."
I spring up to attention.
"Can you name the basic elements and a combination element?"
I rested my head in my hand.
"Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Light, and Dark Or as they are known in most books and incantations Igni, Ter, Aqu, Ven, Lum, and Tene. Through combining these energies by manipulation of our own we can create sub-energies that create things within our world. For example Ter and Aqu are believed to create life energy. This is often used in spells of healing and creating plant life."
Hey guys this is my attempt to rewrite a crappy story I made 10+ years ago and I would love to get some feedback, I will be writing a new chapter every other week if possible.
