I understand that this might be like the Golden Compass, but I promise you it's not. So please don't hate or put any nast comments, they aren't appreciated, and this is my first story so far, so I hope you like!

                The year: 5870

It was a stormy night with the wind blowing slightly, as if serenading you, but in the background you are fully aware of the black rolling clouds above, and the fog of rain headed for you without sound.

That was the night that I went into the darkness, in search of my past.

As I stood there on top of the corp. building of banking headquarters that is now one of the tallest buildings in London I watched the G.I.U.C. building with hatred and ambition at my plans to get in. Only then when I fully looked at its potential did I notice the approaching storm that came in from behind it and slightly smirked.

‘M, do you copy?’

 ‘M, do you read us?’

‘M, come in, please’

Snapping out of my daze I clicked my earpiece on, so that I could talk through to the other line.

“Copy Red Leaf,” I responded with a firm voice, but had to roll the dial around my watch to get a clear signal since the storm had shorted the system.

‘The--n—pro—s—‘

“Red Leaf, I can’t hear you clearly, do you read me?”

‘Yes, we hear you. The v—‘

Out again, damn it Ross!! I thought, and rolled the dial back and forth. After a minute of dealing with the communication problem she looked straight down and noticed the black van fly past her.

“Shit!” she muttered under her breath, and grabbed her Black bag and flung it over her shoulder quickly proceeding to throw her other equipment in the bag. Only leaving a few things that weren’t exactly necessary, she only glanced back once to check and make sure she didn’t leave anything that was vital, and took off towards the edge of the building.

‘M, do read?!’

Relieved at hearing Ross she clicked the earphone, “You dickhead, you almost cost me my life!! When I get back you better fix it and if you don’t then I am DEFINATLY getting a new tech-geek! So you can count your sorry ass good—“

‘Wow and where would you be if I didn’t show up?’ he asked, clearly amused at the frustration in my voice ‘Oh and “tech-geek” really? I thought I told—. ‘

He started before I clicked the button offline; reaching the edge of the building I looked down to see that the van had just gotten there on time, and like I predicted it stopped to pick up another person and their guardian up. This is going to get interesting, I thought as I pulled two tabs on both sides of me to let the extra material of my clothing fall into place as I jumped. While I was falling I took the thin extention that held onto my earpiece and pulled it in front of my eye pushing the button that was engraved in the side of it, as the thin transparent piece came over my eyes, tapping it a few times to get a better magnified look. At first I noticed the guardian of the person that got in and knew that if Jelark was there then his soul wouldn’t be far from him, and quickly assumed that his soul; otherwise known as Kelly Lobart the assistants-assistant of the head to G.I.U.C. was the first to have gotten inside the van.

Closing my eyes, since the drop was a good 7,936 ft. drop, and knowing that I had a ways to go, I let myself go and blank out into a black abyss… an abyss that allowed me to speak to my own guardian.

~hello~

~why? ~

~ Hold on I am coming to get you~ my thoughts said in a clear reading of my voice.

~why?~

~You know--~ I was cut off, once again from that sweet voice that held my past, that knew me like no other. Opening my eyes I felt a tear slide up and into the air above me as I fell past the halfway mark and shook myself from my sub-conciousness, openening my arms and legs to let me fall with ease instead of let gravity take me.  Seeing the door close I knew that gliding onto the van wouldn’t be my best choice so I decided with a quick mind to allow myself to fall a couple of feet behind it. Landing on the ground I retracted my extra clothing and hurried to the moving van. Latching onto the back I held on as it drove on towards the G.I.U.C. tower, otherwise known as the “Gaurdians Informational Unit Corporation” tower. That held everything in today’s technology and Gaurdian biology inside, along with the six heads to the corporation.

I guess I should tell the reader by now… that since the 3090’s there have been advancements in the human anatomy as well as technology and that is why this planet is in between nearly and not even remotely close to perfect, but the one advancement that did happen, all started with G.I.U.C. the one and only leading genetic company in the world. That allowed us to have things such as guardians, and with these guardian’s we provide a soul. In fact this technological advancement has gained so much that everyone once they are born have their own guardian or a soul that is out of your body. A guardian is always the different gender to their soul and they are almost best described as a companion or other half. That is why they shape themselves most of the times like a human so they can talk with their souls. Even though their original form is a blue fire ball, that blue ball represents you and everything you stand for. Although for me it was different…

Most people don’t remember when they were born, but I do, and it was the most painful thing that I had to go through in my life. Now mind you I didn’t find this out until I was told by my mother only three years ago, but when I was born my guardian whose name escapes me was taken away from me for G.I.U.C. purposes, and it was a horrible feeling that I will never forget. My whole body felt like it was exploding from the inside out and once they had clipped the cord the only thing that I can recall was the emptiness it left in my body. From that day on I was the freak in school and had no friends, and when I asked my mom when I was about five or six why I didn’t get along with the other kids she simply replied, <It’s because your special, and they are jealous of you> she smiled and when I looked over her shoulder their laid Marcus her guardian who didn’t get along with me at all, had the smuggest expression and turned away from me in a snooty fashion. On the other hand dad’s guardian Lilia got along with me better than both of my parents ever did, mostly because she felt sorry for me, but she was my only true friend.

Oh and that’s the other thing… when you die so does your guardian, but they don’t age as us humans do. They go to a certain point and just stop, but ever since I was little I would talk to my guardian in my sleep and ask him all sorts of questions, but most of the times he would ask why or not even speak, and almost always kept a barrier against me. Yes, my childhood was lonely and unfulfilling, not to mention the emptiness within me that numbed my emotions until eventually I couldn’t feel at all, but ever since I got closer to learning about my guardian and his whereabouts I have had spurts of emotional breakdowns. So when I got a team together they were surprised to see me angry at them or express sadness and most of the times teased me about it but hey so did I!

Going back to the present, I looked up in time to click on the shield that would hide me from the sensors and cameras. Finally passing the gate I hopped off and walked straight in, and even though my cloaking device was on I could still feel the wariness of the guardian’s around my cloud of invisibility. Looking at the building there was about four kiosks in front of three elevators, and so I jumped over the red line that permitted anyone from going in without scanning your card, and went on to the elevators.

Once it opened I clicked my earpiece again, “I’m in …” I reported, and was received with a deep sigh.
