It was a fine day. The sun shone brightly above a few clouds. The fields full of that year's crops were growing nicely. A sixteen year old boy runs on the dirt path past acres of fields towards a worn out shack built of oak and a roof of thatch. Once he went in, he exclaimed, "Elena! Guess what I got you!"
A twelve year old girl was sitting down sewing something replied, "What is it Joshua?"
"It's a rabbit! I caught him in one of the traps I set up yesterday!"
"I can make us some warm rabbit stew now."
She smiled and took the rabbit and preceded to cook it. Their shack was small, but it was the perfect size for two children. Plague had taken both of their parents and their younger brother seven years ago. The only thing that remained after the tragic period was the shack all five used to live in and its contents.
After they ate, Joshua needed to grab a few more logs from outside. He walked over to the log pile and just as he was about to head back, he heard Elena scream. Joshua ran back just to see Elena on the floor covered in blood.
"Elena! C'mon you can't leave me! We promised each other five years ago that we'll be there for each other!"
"I'm... S-sorry bro-ther..."
After she coughed up blood she continued, "Live... For me... Too......"
With those last words, she stopped breathing and Joshua felt her body go limp.
"Elena? Answer me! Elena!"
After reality struck him, he cried out in pain, "ELENA!!!!!"
Tears trailed down his cheeks and onto his dead sister's face. He hugged her close and swore, "I'll find your killer and I'll make sure he goes to hell. I'll make sure of it even if it kills me."
