4 yr old Y/n pov

"Mom!" I call out as I swim into the house. "Yes, dear? Did you see any land monsters?" Mom asks, holding my face. "Yeah, there was one boat." I inform her. "Oh, dear. Come eat. Being out all day isn't easy." She tells me as I sit down for dinner. "Mom? When is Daddy coming back?" I ask. She shudders and turns around to the table, slamming some sea cucumber on the table.

"We do not speak of that man! Eat up and go straight to bed!" She shoves the food into my hands and pushes me towards my room. "Oh. Goodnight, I guess." I say quietly and set the food down, nestling into my bed. As soon as I wake up, I make my decision. I'm running away. I make my way towards the Human Town and speed up.

"Sea monster!" I hear a muffled man's voice yell and a harpoon flies past my arm, putting a gash in it. Before I have time to react, I get caught in a net. The motor seems to have somehow cut the net, letting me wriggle my way out of it and the current throws me onto the shore. I cough and sob, bringing a large man towards me. As he inspects me, I try my best to get away but he easily holds me with his one arm. The water all comes off and I become a human girl.

He is shocked by this but smiles gently at me and lifts me. "Go to sleep. I'm bringing you to my house so you are safe." He reassures me. I nod as I yawn and quickly drift off. "Meow!" I wake up to the sound of an angry sounding cat. "That's only Machiavelli. He's not the best when it comes to new people." The man informs me, setting me on a bed placed in the kitchen.

"Uhm, Who are you?" I ask as the cat hops over to me. "I am Massimo. Who are you?" He smiles as he finishes cooking whatever he was making. "Y/n. Y/n...I actually don't know my last name." I realize. He chuckles and sets out a plate of food that he gestures to, telling me to eat it. "That's ok. Where are your parents?" He asks, picking me up and sitting me back down at the table.

"Oh. I don't know my dad but my mom is at my house. In the ocean. Miles away." I sigh. "Hey. I could take you in. If you would like that?" He offers, scooping the food into my mouth. I nod eagerly, one, because the food is delicious, two, because I want him to take me in. "I have a daughter a few years older then you. She's eight and is at school in Genova with her mother. During the summer she comes back to Portorosso." He explains to me as I continue to eat. "I can have a sister!?" I ask, mouthful a food.

"I suppose so. I think you should get some sleep. We can write to Giulia tomorrow, huh?" He asks. I'm assuming Giulia is my new sister. "Mhm!" I answer. "Alright, you can stay in her room, I'm sure she won't mind." Massimo waved his hand at me and then holds it out for me. I grab his hand and he leads me to Giulia's room. "Here it is. Do you need anything?" He asks.

I shake my head and he leaves the room. "There's books!" I whisper to myself as I look over at the desk. I see a book on space, a book on how machines work, even one on things called cities! The one with machines look interesting so I pick it up and start reading.

"Lock pick: Locks use particularly difficult mechanics but can be broken into using a long curved object to push the pins in a lock up and thus unlocking said lock." I read aloud. "I could make a lock pick." I say in realization.

I look around the room and find all the necessary parts and get to work. Lock picks are useful but I want a tool that combines a bunch of different things. First, I find a wooden contraption that looks like it held some sort of knife. Then, I attach the lock that I made to the contraption and make sure it can flip open and close easily. Last, I attach a small wrench shaped tool I found and a knife. By the time I finish, the time on a stopwatch I had found says 2:00 AM. I finally fall asleep in the bed.
