The Boyfriend

Teddy and El headed inside and began helping set the table as they argued over who won their pillow fight. 

"Guys just call it a draw." Will said.

"I dunno tht girl has some speed." Argyle said. 

Everyone ate and Teddy and El did the clean-up insisting Joyce did more than enough. 

"Will you be over early?" El asked.

"Should I be?" Teddy asked.

"We leave for the airport at 12 then we are going to Rink-O-Mania." El said.

"11:30 work for you?" Baylee asked. El nodded happily.

The pair did the dishes and listened to the news as they did. Their town never had much drama.

El went to walk Teddy out and she felt herself not wanting him to leave. She didn't understand why a boy couldn't sleep over anyways but she didn't push the rules. 

"I love you I'll see you in the morning!" Teddy said.  

"I love you too be safe!" El called and went inside trying to compose herself. She knew friends said 'i love you' but it meant more to her.

The next morning El was ready to go and sitting on the front porch. She looked down at her watch. 11:49 it read. She anxiously was tapping her foot. Argyle and Jonathan pulled in.

"Ready to go?" Jonathan called and Will came out the front door.

They all got in the car but El waited. Teddy finally showed up. He looked worn.

"Sorry I'm late" he said and got in the car. El got in quietly and sat next to him. They took off and El pulled out a wrapped breakfast sandwich and handed it to Teddy. He ate it and thanked her as they drove to the airport. Will snickered in the back knowing their was about to be boy drama. He was also anxious to see Mike but he was dying to see Mike see Teddy. He was going to hate that El had a friend that was a boy that looked like Teddy. Attractive and a gentleman.

Teddy unbuckled and got between Jonathan and Argyle who were passing a blunt back and forth.

El watched as Teddy grabbed it.

"What are you doing?" El asked.

"I'm gonna need it." Teddy said as he took a few hits. Will held in a laugh. Teddy sat back.

El watched as he seemed to fade. She was worried.

They pulled in and got out to wait. Will grew anxious.

"Hey you know not to tell him anything about...y'know right?" Will whispered to Teddy.

"Of course." Teddy said.

El sat anxiously. She wished she never told Mike to visit. All of his letters had been so bland whereas she'd been pouring her soul into hem even if she lied in some of them but that was her business.

Finally a plane was unloading and El found Mike. She stood and walked. They all watched as Mike hugged her and had flowers. They all stood. Teddy put an arm over Will.

"I don't know what you see but bless your soul Will." he said. Will rolled his eyes and laughed.

Mike and El walked over. Mike said hey to everyone.

"You must be Teddy." Mike said. Teddy held out his hand.

"It's nice to finally put a face to the name." Teddy said. They shook hands and Mike put an arm over El as they walked. El was red. It was very unlike Mike to act like this but she didn't dare to say a word. 

They got in the car and headed to the roller rink. Jonathan and Argyle dropped them off. Will went to a table and set some of their stuff on it. They all got the skating boots and went to the rink. El rolled around and watched Teddy as he mostly used the wall. She skated up behind him and grabbed one of his arms taking him with her.

"I don't know why you brought me I'm like a baby deer on ice." he laughed.

"It's easy just put your weight back." El said. 

Her method worked like magic and he started skating on his own. He skated off and Mike came up and grabbed El's hand.

"So... how did you and Teddy meet?" he asked.

"School. He was the new kid." El said. She knew lying was wrong but she didn't want Mike to know about the endless bullying. "Will and him are good friends." El said.

"Oh he's Will's friend." Mike said. El felt her throat tensing up. The pair noticed Will brining food to the table and Teddy heading out to eat.

"Let's go snack." El said. Mike sighed and they went and sat at the table. Teddy let Will sit closer to the wall and sat next to him. Mike noticed the pair fall silent as he and El sat with them. He hated this boy. They sat for a few minutes before disaster began. Angela was here too.

"Wow I didn't expect to see you lovelies here." Angela smiled as she came over.

"Mike this is Angela we go to school together." El said.

"Hey. I've heard alot about you it's nice to finally meet some of Jane's friends." Mike said. Teddy about choked on his food and Will made a face at El realizing what she'd been telling Mike.

"Why don't we catch up in the rink." Angela said. She went to grab El's hand but Teddy stopped her.

"I don't think she wants to." Teddy said. Angela laughed.

"O-of course I do." El said and pushed Teddy's hand as she stood. Angela grabbed her and skated off with her.

Mike looked at Teddy and Will confused.

"What's your deal?" Mike spat at Teddy.

"She's been lying to you Mike." Will said quickly trying to defuse the boys.

"What? El doesn't lie!" Mike spat.

"She's being bullied. Really badly of course she lied to you." Teddy said as he got up.

"Oh no" Will said as he saw Angela's posse grabbing a camera.

Mike got up and headed to the music stand as it began blasting and Will headed that way too.

El was now in the middle of the rink being circled. Teddy didn't have his skates on so he ran. Shoving his way through the crowd.
