Chapter One; (Soul POV)

Looking back on it, I probably should've been concerned when I witnessed my best friends blow something up, especially since that should have been my job. Okay, let's back up shall we? Let me show you how I got here.

My name is Soul Bakonay, I'm 17 and I'm in my last year of school, or at least, I was at the time, this was the day of my graduation from Brooklyn Academy of the Gifted, (or BAG as we preferred to call it) and I was pumped. I had only ever made it through 2 entire school years without being uninvited back for the next year. I was happy to make it a third, especially since it's such a big milestone. I felt that I had done decently well this year, I hadn't gotten into too many fights, and my grades were all C's and B's. I had successfully made it through a school year without attracting the attention of the teachers to be one of the troublemakers that just didn't want to learn just because they didn't understand that ADHD and Dyslexia is a nightmare to deal with. Ah well.

My best friends were Carter and Sadie Kane, brother and sister, they weren't twins as one was two years older than the other, and even Carter, the oldest, was a year younger than me. Despite that, he was in the same year group as his sister, because he had apparently been home schooled before attending. They looked nothing alike. Carter was a dark skinned boy with darker brown hair and eyes. Sadie was blonde and had startlingly blue eyes. As far as looks go, it might have appeared she was more likely to be my sister than Carter's, (It had been an honest mistake that many had made over the course of the year) because I shared those particular features. As well as being aesthetically different, their personalities were polar opposites as well. Whilst Sadie was, like me, impulsive and spontaneous, Carter was more reserved and calculating. He reminded me of my cousins from Cabin Six. (We'll get to that later)

Anyway, we (me and the rest of my grade) had just gotten our scores from our finals and were celebrating our last day of school within the hallways, gymnasium, football pitch, and just about everywhere else. (I honestly don't know if this is what happens, I'm not American so I can only guess that this is how it works and is the normal reaction, tell me if I'm wrong, or don't. I don't really mind either way, it might screw my motivation over though...) Me, I was just hanging out with Carter and Sadie for a few hours before me and some of my cousins had arranged for a cab.

"Hey, Soul?" Carter said in a nervous manner that made it seem like he wanted my opinion on something.
"Yes?" I ask him.
He raised his hand to scratch his neck. "This summer camp you go to..."
"Uh-huh?"
"Does a guy called... Percy, go there?" My eyes widened. This guy knew Percy? How!? And how did he know that Percy goes to a summer camp!?
"Oh, um... maybe, I can't say I know everyone's name but it does ring a bell. What's his last name?" I decided to act this way, because I knew it would probably be more convincing than saying 'no'. Also because when someone tries to single him out, it's generally a sign that they can't be trusted. And seeing as this was coming from one of my best friends... well. I was a bit confused.
Carter shook his head, "I don't know, sorry. I only caught his first name." Hmm, he looked... disappointed. He looked at Sadie and some sort of conversation flashed through their eyes.

"Hmm, okay. What about an Annabeth. I think she said her last name was Chase?" Okay, now I was scared. This couldn't be a coincidence. They knew both Percy and Annabeth. Asking about them personally. I tried to calm myself down, getting freaked out about something like this could get me killed. (And no, I'm not joking. This could have gone ugly. Well, more so than it did but that comes with the territory.)
"Annabeth Chase huh? Hmmm. That one doesn't sound familiar. I don't know anyone called Annabeth." I say. "I can ask around camp for you when I get there though. Maybe I can come back to Brooklyn one day and introduce you. If they are at camp, that is." I finished. Honestly I was quite proud of myself. Normally I sucked at lying because of my dad. He's... well, you'll find out.
"Hmm, sure. That works." Carter said. Why was he acting so... nervous? Carter, on the outside, always seemed so confident. Although I knew it was an act, seeing as I had proof. I had seen fear and nervousness on his face before, and since then I had been able to recognise that look he'd get in his eyes.
