THE LIGHTSPIRIT — MELT

❝I JUST WANT MY FEELINGS TO REACH YOU...❞

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

YOU CLEARLY REMEMBER the first day you met them.

It was a normal school day like any other, but just saying that makes it sound so much more cliché than it needs to be.

With an outfit that was dangerously close to breaking the dress code (namely the fact you wore something that looked akin to streetwear rather than school wear), you set off for the day.

At the time, you had no idea who they were. Honestly, who cares? Didn't curiosity kill the cat? Sounds like a death sentence to look into people when it was unnecessary. Keeping everyone at an arm's distance as acquaintances was enough for you.

However, much to your dismay, you garnered your own reputation for that sort of behavior — "cold" and "deceitful" as some girls in your class would put it. The hell did they even mean by that? Was it because of your appearance? Sure, you had a less than conventional outfit compared to your peers, but certainly, that isn't enough to amass this attention. Plus, that didn't explain the "deceitful" part at all.

Ultimately, it was comfortable, so who cares about what they thought.

On early school mornings, it was easy to get lost in your thoughts, so it wasn't a surprise that eventually you would bump into someone.

Although, it was more like they ran into you.

The collision snapped you out of your thoughts, a dull pain springing on your chest, albeit fading away as quickly as it came.

"Ow!" they exclaimed as they landed on the ground. Their eyes were shut, wincing from the unexpected pain.

The first thing you noticed about them was the outfit they wore. It was your school uniform, briefly modified by a few pins and not as neatly kept as the school would want, but certainly closer to their expectations than what you wore.

"Watch where you're going."

"Huh?!" Their eyes snapped open at your remark. "I could say the same for you, you know——!"

Upon looking up and meeting your eyes, they froze.

Completely.

With every passing second, you could feel the atmosphere growing tenser and certainly more awkward. Gone was their irritated expression, seemingly replaced with what seemed to be — shock? Confusion?

The most notable change was the way their jaw dropped and face turned red.

"Look, if you have something to say, say it to my face. You're in the way."
