(3rd pov)

Rio woke up to the sound of shattering glass . It didn't bother him though, it was always like this .
He got out of bed and got dressed. Sneaking down the hallway to check on his little brother Ren . He knew that his parents wouldn't touch him but he would always check just to make sure. Rio on the other hand was different, they would come at him and beat him nearly to death.

All because he had a "beastly quirk". It made him sick, how could his own "parents" treat him like that? It wouldn't be so bad if they would at least give him some food but no. He didn't 'deserve food'. But he didn't mind. His family is poor and there isn't enough to go around. The less food he ate of there's the more that could go to Ren.

Ren was only three years old, almost four. His half brother had hope. If he got a good quirk it would set him up for success and that would get his parents out of this hell hole.

After checking on his little brother , he prepared for hell ,AKA school. He gathered his books ,a spare hoodie, and his med kit just in case . He shoved them in a black backpack with a chest strap that connects the shoulder straps. It was his father's old backpack.

Instead of going out the front door where his tormentors where probably waiting, he opted to jump out his window instead. It was a 3 story drop. He jumped landing on all fours, he made no sound when he hit the concrete below. His black fluffy tail stretching out behind him to inshore he didn't fall on his face. His tail perfectly matched his hair.

Standing up straight, his ears flicked forward. He listened for anyone in the alley he was in . It was still rather dark out and his eyes had yet to adjust to the darkness after being in the bright house. It didn't take long though.

As he walked to school he passed the college. It was Monday, the college gives out food from the culinary course on Mondays. He walked up to the college and they gave him two paper bags of food. He thanked them and made his way to school. In the first bag were 6 chocolate biscotti's . They didn't last 5 minutes. They were the first food Rio had in two days.
In the second bag was a 2 chicken sandwiches, a bag of chips, and a pack of cookies. He ate one sandwich and saved the rest for later.

With a full stomach he already felt more energetic . He jogged the rest of the way to school. He was early , way early, like an hour early. So he walked up to the pecan tree in the front of the school. This tree was his life saver. The school couldn't tell him not to eat the pecans because it was technically on city property not school property. Well some teachers tried stopping him once but when the police were called they just stared at the teachers like they were stupid and gave them a harassment warning.

For the next half hour Rio gathered fallen pecans and stuffed them in the empty paper bag until it was bursting at the seems. There were still plenty of nuts on the ground for other students if they wanted some. But people would still bother him about taking so much. He climbed the tree with his prize to avoid another confrontation. He snacked on the pecans for 15 minutes, about one forth of the nuts were gone from the bag . Today was a good day so far. He for once had a full stomach, he made it to school early enough to get pecans in peace, and not a single sign of his other tormentors. He put the rest of the pecans in his backpack for later. He loved that backpack, it's the only thing he has for his actual father that hasn't been destroyed.

He swore to himself that one day he would find him.
His step father chased him away when he was only 3 years old. All Rio knew was that he had the same black hair as his father . But other than that he got most of his traits from his grandparents . Other than his toxic green blue eyes, he got them from his mother.

He made his way to his home room class. The day went smoother than normal.
He ate the sandwich, chips and pack of cookies for lunch. He wasn't bothered today, mostly because the school bullies decided to skip school today.
He was happy.

(Rio's POV)

I made my way home and decided to walk through the front door today like a normal person. Scaling the wall of the apartment complex got me some weird looks from passerbys .
I decided wrong.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN BRAT!" Hollered my stepfather I looked away trying to not react to his tone. But I knew he was pissed. When he's like this it normally ends in a beating that only ends when I pass out .
"YOU DISCUSSING PEACE OF SHIT DON'T IGNORE ME!!" He yelled but I knew a reaction, any reaction would make it worse. My mom was a yes woman, she would do anything he told her to do.
But his next words surprised even her.
"YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WAIST OF SPACE, GET OUT.
GET YOUR SHIT AND LEAVE!!" As he said that he activated his quirk and spikes of bone formed on each of his knuckles.

He started walking towards me and I booked it to my room. I locked it and shove a dresser Infront of it. I started grabbing everything of value to me. My homemade laptop, some clothes, a sleeveless hoodie, my favorite cargo pants, the little bit of cash I managed to hide from my stepfather, my ID and other identification papers and finally a mask I found while walking along a trash covered beach looking for parts. It still needs work but it's valuable to me.

My stepfather started trying to break the door down and I was snapped from my thoughts, I only had a few more minutes to grab stuff. I grabbed my tool kit and my spare shoes . I had just finished shoving it all in my father's backpack when he broke down the door . I didn't hesitate to jump out the window. But instead of jumping down, I  jumped to the next roof. I could feel his hand graze my tail. One more second and he would have probably killed me.

I ran and didn't look back.
