Rio's POV:

I woke up in the afternoon, it was my third day here at the abandoned school and my second as a vigilante. I checked the time on my laptop, it was 2:00pm. I decided to check up on my application as well and saw that I was cleared to take the entrance exam in 4 days. I turned off the laptop and decided to clean up any dust or dirt that I had tracked in last night. I was a bit sore from last night but it wasn't anything a bit of stretching couldn't fix .

I studied for a bit before deciding to go out and look for some food. I got dressed in my vigilante gear but left my mask in my pocket.

I wandered the alleys eventually finding a dumpster belonging to a donut shop.
It was shameful how wasteful bakeries are . In the dumpster laid dozens of day old donuts. I picked out the ones in the center of the pile of donuts. They were less likely to be contaminated by Filth. I jumped to the roof of a nearby apartment complex and ate about 6 day old donuts.

I wandered down some sketchy alleys and found a broken phone. I didn't question what probably happened here, but I did take the smashed phone. Maybe it wasn't to far gone.

I headed back and decided to add a med kit to my costume. Luckily I found a utility belt in the mechanics class , one with a leg straps that keeps the belt from bouncing. I filled the main pouch with gauze, and medical tape. The next pouch had bandaids, alcohol pads, antibacterial cream, and burn cream. Now I was prepared to help a victim if needed. One last thing, I had found a can of Narcan and found that it fit a small pouch perfectly so it was there too.

I managed to get the phone to power on. It needs some work but I'm sure I can work with this.

Oh it's almost time. I grabbed my mask and take off into the alleys. I left a bit earlier today. The sun was just starting to set. I took some time earlier to study all the local patrol routes , now it won't take as long to find a hero to help. I studied the layout of the alleys as well. The heroes I saw yesterday should be out tonight.
Finally it was dark enough for me to start. My ears perked, I heard shuffling. I was about to skip over it when I heard a soft sob.

I stalked up to investigate, but what I saw royally pissed me off. A hulking man was holding a little girl against the wall, a knife at her throat. The man was telling the girl how pretty her blood would make her and how no one will save her. He started sliding the blade against the side of her neck.

There was no time to go get a hero, if I can't bring a hero here...I will bring them to a hero.

I leaped down, sending my feet into his shoulders. I twisted around and picked up the girl bridal style. The nearest patrol route is about 3 blocks away. Hopefully this man doesn't have a speed quirk.
I took off down the alley heading straight towards the patrol route.

On the bright side, his quirk wasn't speed. But that didn't make running from him any easier, his quirk allows him to create blades, I was dodging knifes left and right hoping I have the correct time for the heroes patrols. I was heading towards amplifiers evening patrol route and I was hoping I didn't miss her.

I turned the corner and there she was. She saw me and looked confused before realizing what I was holding and who was chasing me. She put 2 and 2 together and attacked the villain.

I put the girl down and started helping her with the cut on her neck . I pulled out some gauze and stopped the bleeding. Once the blood stopped I tapped it to the wound carefully. I looked at the little girl and started to try and calm her down.
"It's ok, your safe now, no one can hurt you." She looked like she was about to cry and she hugged my tail. My tail was very sensitive but it seemed to comfort the little girl so I let her be. When she calmed down amplifier was still fighting the villain.
"W-what's your n-name?" She asked
"You can call me cat" I responded and she giggled, it was cute.
Amplifier was wrapping up the fight so I started wrapping it up as well.
"Ok kid I'm going to need you to go with that nice hero ok?" I said and she nodded.
But before I could leave I heard.
"Wait" it was amplifier, I turned and she was grabbing something from her pocket.
It was a yogurt covered protein bar .
" I saw that yesterday you looked hungry. Here" she tossed it to me.
"Um ,thanks " I was going to run out of the alley but instead I climbed up a fire escape and onto a rooftop. Amplifier didn't seem to want to catch me. Amplifier more seemed to want to help me. I looked back, the hero had gone to the child and was checking the first aid I gave her .
I think I can trust amplifier.

I continued searching the alleys and lessoning for trouble. I didn't dismiss anything. Still it was rather calm tonight. I heard a disturbance so I followed the sound. As I got closer the sounds of fighting got louder. I looked down into the alley to see a three verses one fight. It seems to be another vigilante that the villains. The vigilante was sliding around the villains in an all might hoodie and a medical mask. He almost got pinned to a wall when I jumped down and drop kicked a villain in the head. Now all their attention was on me.
I landed on all fours and kicked off the ground, claws out and extended. I landed on the second and used my claws to latch on. He stumbled back and hit his head against the alley wall. The other vigilante knocked out the other villain. He turned to me and spoke.
" Um , hi are you new here?" He asked
"... Do you mean as a vigilante?" I ask kinda dumbfounded by his approachability.
"Yeah, what else would I be talking about?"
"True, but yeah I started yesterday" I said with a bit of a mew.
"... YESTERDAY DANG YOU DID WAY BETTER THAN ME IN MY FIRST WEEK-"
he yelled, and it caught me by surprised.
" DUDE Chill.. can we go somewhere else and talk?" I asked, he was hesitant but responded.
" Sure kid, call me crawler"  he looked at me expectantly.
" Call me cat" I said with a tinge of pride as we walked. Then I had an idea, this dude wasn't very much of a threat but he knows how to fight. Maybe I can get him to teach me.
"Do you got a place to crash for the night?"
" I'm kinda out of my area right now. Why? are you offering?" He said with a bit of humor in his voice.
" Kinda, I was hoping to learn something from you." I was blunt but it was the truth. There was no point in hiding it.
"Sure I'll bite, let's go." He said calmly but it was clear that he was reading my ever move. He's definitely not stupid.
I lead him to the abandoned school.
"You stay here? " He asked with a bit of consern. I couldn't tell why he was surprised though . My quirk wasn't hidden.
"I kinda got disowned because of my quirk, I've always been told that it's beastly and villainous." I said flatly. He looked at me with surprise.
" But mutation quirks are so common and your's is quite strong, why in the world would... Ugh nevermind your folks are idiots , let me just say that." He said and it was so genuine.
"Thanks , that might be the nicest thing someone has ever said to me." I said and he looked even more concerned.

I lead him through the school and into the library. Luckily for crawler the library has a sky light. When we entered the library crawler's eyes widened.
"Dude you really cleaned this place up!" He said. I chuckled
" Well the place is mine now, might as well clean it up a bit." We walked over to a table.
He sat down and took off his mask.
" Wait your mask, aren't you worried that I might tell someone what you look like ?" I ask frantically .
"No not really, I mean it's not hard to tell that you don't have and bad intentions kid. That and we're both vigilantes , if ether of use told on the other it would put a target on our back." He said. It made sense, but I can't shake the feeling of him giving me a bit of trust that I should return in some way. I decided to take off my own mask.
"Ok, so why did you become a vigilante?" He asked. I took a second to think and I said " because I can't become a hero, no matter how hard I try, unless something crazy happens I won't be able to be a hero because of my quirk." He looked at me like I grew two heads but spoke anyway.
"I became a vigilante too help my community. Though I do hope that one day I can become a hero." He said
"Wait that can happen? " I asked my ears perked.
" Well yeah, if you aren't to violent and a hero takes a liking to you, they can enroll you in a hero school or hire you as there sidekick and if you become a sidekick you can work your way to become a hero."
I guess he could see my excitement because he smiled as well.
" Oh my God , I could be a hero!" I just need to convince a hero that I'm hero material.
" Hold up kid, if you go that route make sure you at least like the hero that sponsors you . If not they might try to hold this over your head. What I'm trying to say is look into the heroes before excepting any offers. Ok? " He cautioned me.
"Right" I said processing the possibilities.
"Well I'm gonna get to studying."
"Aren't you gonna rest kid ?" He asked
" I'm kinda nocturnal" I say
" Well I'm not. I'm gonna crash on one of the couches, ok?" He said
" Sure, I'll probably be asleep by the time you wake up though" I said trying not to sound disappointed.
"Yeah , if you want we can meet up later on, I can teach you how to fight a bit. He suggested And I was ecstatic about his offer.
"Sure, how about next Tuesday?" I asked
"That'll work" he said collapsing on to a couch.

I took that as my cue to start studying. I also ate the protein bar amplifier gave me.

It was delicious.
