Stranger Things Six

November 6th 1991 (Prologue)

A phone ring echos throughout the newly rented apartment. Boxes and plastic covered furniture scattered everywhere, the wallpaper was fresh and the hard wood floors were silent.

The hand reaching for the phone wore a beautiful wedding ring, a pear shaped diamond with a silver band.

Her voice was raspy and tired as she answered, "Mm..Hello?"

The other line was silent for a moment, as the seconds went by she assumed this was probably some sort of prank call and prepared to hang up.

"Nancy?"

Her eyebrows lifted as she heard a familiar voice through the phone.

"El- Jane?" Nancy looks to the clock by her nightstand and rubs her eyes. "It's 1:00 in the morning, is everything okay?"

Sniffling could be heard through the line, followed by a tearful sigh. "Its Will... He's gone Nance, in his sleep. You guys have to get down here soon."

Nancys eyes widened and she covered her mouth as she looked over to her husband, still fast asleep with his arm around her waist.

"A-alright, we'll pack a few bags and be on our way." She rubbed her head as she turned on the lamp beside her, wiping a tear from her cheek.

Shuffling could be heard in the background, "Karen's getting your bedroom ready, I'll see you when you get here."

Nancy nodded as she wiped away the tears falling down her cheeks, "We'll see you soon..."

As the line cut, Nancy looked down to her side and put a hand on her husbands arm, gently shaking him.

Failing to wake him, she decided to stop, wanting to savor seeing him sleep with a smile. Nancy knew after breaking this kind of news to him, she wouldn't see that for a while.

After letting out a sad sigh she reached down and lifted his arm off of her, sitting up to get a good hold of his shoulder.

"Dustin?" She called, rubbing his cheek with her thumb, "Baby- wake up.."

Suddenly the bed shifted as Dustin stretched out his legs, rubbing his eyes covered by his curly locks.

He looked at Nancy for a moment, then the clock.

"Nance? is everything okay?" He sat up with a concerned expression, still rubbing an eye.

She gulps, looking down as she shakes her head, "It's Will honey..He's gone..."
