Rescue Rumble

"C'mon guys, those bozos are straight ahead. I can smell 'em," Guy waded  ahead of Barda and Hal through the sewers.

She couldn't smell anything, thanks to the filters Captain Marvel got them to wear for protection. Guy discarded his as he resented having to take orders from "Captain Whitebread".

The green glow from the Lanterns' rings were their only source of light.

Guy kicked out the grating, leading them into a giant room with no doors or windows. The ceiling, walls and floor were made of some kind of metal.

They were in a Vibranium cube.

Fire sizzled in the form of a cage in the center of the room. She could make out a limp, green figure within the fiery cage. It had to be the Martian Manhunter.

Dark smoke seeped through the vents causing an oppressive darkness to engulf them. 

Without warning, Guy turned on them. His eyes were blazing red when he slammed a giant green mallet at her.

"What the...," hissed Hal as he swung a giant boxing glove at Guy.

"Shut up wimp! I'm the greatest.."

Oh great, they got Guy.

She slammed her Mega-Rod rod hard on his head. 

The red glow in his eyes faded as they crossed.

He toppled over with a stupid grin on his face, which was, in her opinion, a vast improvement.

The metallic ceiling slid open and parademons swarmed in.

Here we go again.
Barda slung Guy over her shoulder with one hand, leaving the other free to fend off the monsters with her Mega-rod.

Instinctively, Hal threw up a protective shield over himself and his team mates.

"Go get J'onn! I'll fend them off," yelled Barda.

Hal took off.

Hovering before the fiery cage, his ring created a huge fire extinguisher that put out the flames.

The fire extinguisher morphed into giant pliers which pried open the cage.

The pliers turned into a green hand that lifted J'onn out of the cage.
"Got you pal," grinned Hal as the hand turned into a bubble suspending J'onn in front of him.

"Now!" He shouted.

Barda activated the Mega-rod. In a dizzy whirl, all four of them dropped into the Watchtower, right in front of Captain Marvel.

"Holy Moley!" Captain Marvel grimaced, holding his nose.

"I know where they are," J'onn breathed, as the green bubble faded.

Her Mega-Rod teleported them in front of a massive machine that held countless cylinders containing human captives. 

Captain Marvel glanced down at Stargirl beside him. She seemed so small and delicate when he was like this. Her golden hair glistened beautifully in the warm golden glow of her cosmic rod. 

The Billy side of him wanted her safe in the Watchtower. Not here. Not in the middle of Darkseid's stronghold.

As if reading his thoughts, she grinned up at him, her cute braces peeking through her dazzling smile. "I'll be fine, big boy."
