Tom's P.O.V
"I need some space Tom, you're being super clingy tonight." Star stated before walking over to the punch table, I facepalmed and felt a heat rising in my chest. Everything was a disaster, the demons where upset that I was changing everything and Star didn't even appreciate a thing I did for her. My hand reached over to the pink bunny I was hiding and I started to calm down. I watched her play with the little skeleton fish in the punch bowl, as she did a smile spread across my face. She was so adorable when in her own world, part of me felt bad for dragging her here.I let out a deep sigh of defeat, it felt like me and Star where never going to be close like we used to. I walked away from the bunny and made my way towards Star, it was time I told her the truth. Halfway through the room I bumped into someone without noticing, before they fell I grabbed their waist and caught then into a dip. We stared into each other's eye's for a split second I forgot everything around me. A bright red light emitted from the skylight and in seconds I realized what was happening. I didn't want to be cursed with this stranger, my anger was building. Every part of me was ready to kill this child who stole Star's dance but before I could say anything they started to lead.
They got up from the dip and started to dance with me, instantly I was filled with embarrassment but it was instantly pushed aside as I realized how good they where at dancing. Again I got lost in their brown eye's, our dancing became synchronized and everything around me disappeared. The red light was all I could see, this stranger in a mask somehow stole Star's dance and even my soul.
The dance came to an end and I noticed them shaking frantically, like they could be nervous. Everyone clapped and whistled as if to say congratulations. They let go of me and ran off into a random direction, my heart was racing and I could feel my head spinning.
"Tom! That was amazing, who was that guy?" Star asked running up to me, her smile was so genuine. She gave me a hug and started to ask me a bunch of questions I didn't even know myself. The beginning of the day I felt like everything was under my control, up until a few seconds ago I was pulling the strings.
"Tom?" Star asked as she realized I was in my own world, I hadn't muttered a single word to her since it happened. When I looked at her the feeling of needing her seemed to drift away. My heart sank as I gave her the best smile I could."Im fine Starship, you want me to take you home?" I asked holding out my arm. She gladly took it and walked with me. Even with her holding onto me all those feelings seemed to drift, when I looked at her it was just a painful feeling. We started talking about anything and I avoided the awful truth of knowing that I didn't love Star like I wanted to.
We made it back to Stars bedroom window and we both got out onto the balcony, for a moment we sat in a peaceful silence. Star held my hand and gave me a big smile.
"You know, I had a lot of fun tonight. Im really happy you didn't get mad tonight, you changed a lot and that makes me happy. I just don't want to lead you on either. Im happier as your friend." She explained in a gentle tone, the way she looked down at her hands and fidgeted to herself was like a euphoric feeling.
"Starship, thank you. For everything." I looked down at her and gave her a smile. She gave me a shocked look before giving me a big hug, I was shocked as well. Star hasn't hugged me since we had broken up last, normally I would feel guilty after she hugs me but this time. This time it was so loving, it felt like I didn't have to leave her on bad terms. I hugged her back and felt something deep in my stomach. My eyes glanced open and instantly I locked eye's with Marco who was standing at Stars door holding his breath.
I let go of Star and she instantly took notice to Marco, our moment ended in seconds but for me I could only stare at Marco. Our eye's never left each others, they looked so familiar and it felt like. My hand grasped onto my stomach and my heart raced as I noticed the feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Butterflies, for Marco?
The light had turned on and Star was talking about the dance, more specifically my dance. She hadn't noticed Marco was a nervous wreck and I was shaking. There was no way it was him down there.
I broke eye contact to look around the room and to my expectations there sat the bell I had given to Star earlier, it was laying down flat and the feeling of the warm red moon was all I felt. Marco seemed to noticed this and he made his way through Star's room.
"I-I just came for this bowl haha, make some nachos since its probably been a long day right." He laughed nervously before walking towards me and picking up a bowl off the ground, it was half empty and there was crumbs all over the floor.
"Thats a great idea, Tom you wanna join?" Star asked looking over at me, she took her hair out and was looking for an outfit. She was still in her own world and hadn't even noticed the obvious truth. My eye's went back onto Marco as he walked away and I noticed the hat hanging around his neck, that confirmed everything.
Marco left the room and it was just us again. My mind was spinning with all these thoughts and I tried to repress them. There wasn't a chance that Marco was the one I danced with, out of all the creatures in this dimension how could Marco have ended up under that light with me. How was I supposed to explain this to him.
"You're really spacey today, you okay Tom?" Star asked snapping me out of my thought process. I wanted to go talk to Marco right now to get answers but it felt like a bad time too.
"Sorry Starship, it was a long day. Ill see you around, I gotta go home and get my beauty sleep." I joked before going to the balcony and emerged myself in fire and instantly I was sent home. With that I sat down on my bean bag and let my mind wonder.
That dance was for Star and in the end it was Marco who shared the spotlight with me. I looked at my hand and remembered the way Marco took it and lead me as we danced.
Who knew Marco could dance.
