The pair walked up to the Great Hall in silence. Edan knew she should thank Professor Snape for all the protection he provided her but she was a bit to angry at the moment. As she parted ways with him she made a mental note to thank him eventually. As Edan approached the table where her friends were seating, people stared her down. Mostly fixated on the scar on my face but they all knew what happened.
Hermione shouted Edan's name and pointed at her. Fred and George immediately jumped up from the table. For a moment it looked as if they'd envelope her in one of their infuriating group hugs but they stopped themselves. "Are you in much pain?" George asked hugging her gently.
Edan shrugged. "Nothing I can't handle." They led her back to the table to sit across from the trio. Edan couldn't help but feel joyful. Sure, she'd been injured pretty badly and the future of her relationship was in question but so many positive things had happened too. Sirius was safe along with Buckbeak who's life had been spared. Hermione wouldn't fill her in on all of the details but Edan was okay with being in the dark about the situation.
"How are things with your guy?" Hermione asked.
"Great, I actually just came from his room." Edan responded with a wink.
Ron and Harry's jaws dropped. They were still getting acclimated to the news. "Do you mean you shagged him?" George said with a slight edge in his voice.
Edan laughed loudly. "Not today."
"Let's place bets on when Edan's going to get pregnant." Fred said as the entire group erupted with laughter. Originally that sort of comment would have angered Edan but now she found it rather funny.
"How are things going to work since we're going back to The Burrow?" George questioned.
Edan shrugged. "I have to talk to Molly and Arthur. Whatever decision or boundaries they put in place we'll respect."
Fred wrapped his arm around Edan's shoulder. "I'm sure they'd be as thrilled as we are for a grandchild." Edan elbowed him in the stomach that focused on her meal.
After the feast Hermione and Edan walked back up to their dormitory together. Edan hadn't started packing even slightly but Hermione offered to keep her company while she did so. As they ascended the stairs leading directly to The Fat Lady's portrait Edan noticed Professor Snape standing there. She supposed it was as good a time as any to finally speak to him. "Edan?" Hermione questioned as she was stepping through the portrait glaring at the back of Snape's head.
"You go ahead. I'll be up there soon." Professor Snape stood with his arms crossed watching Edan with an expression of neutrality. She was still furious with him for causing the chain of events that lead to Remus no longer being a Professor at Hogwarts. Still, they'd built such a strong relationship over the last year, she felt the need to hear him out. "I never did say thank you for bringing me to the hospital wing. I should have listened to you when you tried to stop me."
Professor Snape nodded his head slightly. " Yes, well - I wanted to see you off. You weren't too terrible of company this year, perhaps I'll consider letting it continue into next term"
Edan planted her hands on her hips. Why did he assume she would want to. "I'll be the one to consider it, Sir. Next year is going to look awfully different considering I'll have yet another new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher." She responded pointedly raising a brow at him.
"I take it your little boyfriend revealed what happened."
"Yes, he did. I think it was a pretty rotten thing to do."
Snape's nostrils flared and for a moment she thought he would reprimand her for the tone she used. "It might come as a surprise but my motives were not entirely selfish. You are privy to the fact that I am not Lupin's biggest fan but my concerns lied more with the safety of my students. I didn't not shout his condition from the rooftops, I went to the school Governors; one of them must have spread the information further."
She didn't know how but Edan was certain he was being honest. After all, why would he lie? "I'm sorry for being presumptuous Professor. If you can look past my snarky attitude I hope you will consider mentoring me next year."
Professor Snape smirked down at her. "We shall see." Then he strode down the stairway with his cloak billowing behind him. Edan rolled her eyes then entered through the portrait hole.
Hermione was on her the moment she entered her dormitory. "So you and Professor Lupin actually did.. you know?" She asked instantly.
Edan chuckled to herself. "Yes Hermione, as have many other students my age."
"What was it like?!"
Edan took out her wand to gather up her belongings all at once. "I am not having this conversation with you Hermione! You're only thirteen."
Hermione pouted in response. "Oh that's bollocks. I'm far more mature than half the kids my age." Edan rolled her eyes in response. This was not a topic of discussion she cared to have with her. She quickly closed her trunk and latched it. "I suppose you're off to see him then."
"Actually, no. He said he was leaving this evening. I suspect he's gone already." Edan said sadly. Hopefully she would receive a letter from him quickly. Once again she had no idea where to send a letter to him.
Hermione could sense Edan was disappointed. "I am not going to let you wallow! Come on, there's a little party going on in the common room."
The next morning Edan boarding the train with Fred and George. The Trio joined them in a compartment. As the train began its journey the compartment door slid open to revealing Remus standing there. "I thought you'd gone already!" Edan exclaimed excitedly. Fred moved over to allow room for them to sit beside each other.
Remus pecked her quickly on the cheek. "I took all of my belongings home but thought it would be nice for me to accompany you on your ride home."
"That's a pleasant surprise." Edan said grinning like a madman. The train ride was spent telling jokes, playing a few card games and of course enjoying food from the trolley. Edan nestled against Remus shoulder and dozed off for the remainder of the ride.
She awoke as they pulled into King's Cross Station. Remus helped Hermione and Edan pull their trucks off of the train and onto the platform. Hermione rushed to embrace her parents after waving goodbye to Edan. In the distance Edan could see Molly and Arthur bustling through the ground. The whole lot of Weasley children soon congregated around Remus and Edan.
There was plenty of hugging, kissing and fussing over from Molly. Arthur was a bit more reserved as always. He struck up a conversation with Remus once he'd embraced each of his kids. "Oh we need to plump you up straight away!" Molly said as she took in Edan's appearance. For the first time in awhile she wasn't hiding beneath an oversized sweatshirt which made it pretty obvious the amount of weight she lost during the school year. "Come on, let's get home for some dinner."
Arthur turned to Remus. "Would you like to come for supper?"
Remus hesitated for a moment, glancing at Edan who nodded encouragingly. "That would be wonderful. I have something I'd like to discuss with you and Molly as it turns out."
"Oh Remus you know you're always welcome." Molly said shuffling Ginny and Ron away from the crowd. Arthur and Remus apparated to the burrow along with everyone's trunks. When they returned Arthur took hold of Ginny, Molly took hold of Ron to apparate back to The Burrow. Percy begrudgingly took Fred's arm while Remus apparated along side with George. Edan was of age but she had yet to learn how to apparate, those lessons didn't begin until next term.
Remus suddenly popped back into view beside her. "Ready to go?" Edan took his arm but pulled him in for a kiss before allowing him to escort her home.
