Chapter 13: Chase who?

Vinnies pov
Harper started to cry.
"Come on now harp don't get all emotional on me now." I said
She laughed and wiped her eyes.
"You're suck a dork." She teased.
The door opened and it was Martha.
"Hey guys it's time for group." She said
"But groups not until tomorrow." I said confused.
"Well Dustin wants you all there now, so come on."
I looked at Harper and she looked just as confused as I did.
We went down to the group room and Dustin was there with some of the group members from our floor.
Me and Harper sat down and Dustin began to talk.
"So this meeting is out of no where I know but this couldn't wait. We have someone new joining us and just as we did with Scarlett we will be introducing him."
Dustin stood up and he left the room. He came back with some kid. He was kinda tall about 6'1 and he had tattoos. He looked like a typical emo boy.
Dustin sat down with him and he introduced him to the group.
"This is chase. He will be staying on your floor with you all."

"Chase go ahead and introduce yourself and why you're here if you're comfortable with that."
"I'm chase uh I'm 20 years old. I'm a chill person you know. I'm actually here because I fell into a deep depression and I wanted to get help. So yeah."
"That's good you've come to the right place. Now we will go around and introduce each and every one of you." Said Dustin.
I was first.
"I'm vinnie Im 20." I said
"Nice to meet you man." He said
"I'm Harper and I'm 19."
He smiled.
"Hey Harper nice to meet you."
Why didn't he smile when he said hi to me? Was he flirting with Harper?
Group was over and we had some free time.
Chase came over to me and Harper.
"Hey so what do y'all usually do after group and stuff?"
"Well me personally I like to go to the group game room or I'll go to group room A and color." Said Harper.
"Cool, do you mind showing me around?" He asked
Harper looked at me and I just said
"Go ahead I'll be in my room."
Harpers pov
Me and chase headed down to the cafeteria first.
"So this is where we eat um since you'll be on our floor you'll have the eating times we do."
"What are the times?" He asked
"It's 9am for breakfast 1pm for lunch and 5 pm for dinner." I said
I continued to show him around and our last stop was the construction going on for the new pool.
"So this is where we're going to get our pool. It should be done by may."
"I love to swim. Since I was like a little kid I've always loved the water."he explained.
"Me too. I love the water."
"If you don't mind me asking are you and vinnie together?" He asked
"Yeah we are. I've had a crush on him for years now. I've been here for a while." I said
"I'm not going to ask you why, I don't want to pry or anything. I'll let you tell me when you're ready." He said
I smiled.
"What about you any girlfriends?"
"Actually no not anymore. She's actually the reason I'm here. Her name was Emma and she broke up with me and I loved her a lot like a lot. It was the wrong person wrong time kinda thing." He explained.
"She was pretty and she was cool, but after we broke up I fell into a depression and I couldn't find a way out. Before I did anything I came here."
"I'm sure soon you'll find yourself again."
He smiled.
"Yeah i hope so."
We walked back up to our floor and I walked him to his room.
"Well it's lights out now. I'll see you tomorrow." I said
He smiled.
"Thank you for showing me around. I really appreciate it."
"No problem anytime. Maybe tomorrow we can go do something fun."
"Yeah sure. I'll see you later." He said as he closed the door.
I went back to my room and I went to sleep.
Chase seemed like a genuine person, he reminded me of a friend I had here. His name was Danny and he was a little older than me. He was 22. He struggled with bipolar disorder and he also had schizophrenia. We were best friends for 5 years before he took his life by jumping off of the hospitals roof. He got out one night and before anyone could stop him he jumped. That happened over 2 years ago.
Next day
I woke up and went down to the cafeteria to grab some breakfast. I was in line and I saw chase and vinnie sitting down at a table talking.
I grabbed my breakfast and sat down with them.
"Hey guys." I said
"Hey." Said chase.
"Me and chase were just talking about music." Said vin
"Oh that's nice."
"Did you hear about the new girl who came in today? She's on the 5 floor that's why we didn't have a group meeting about it." Said vinnie
"No? Whats her name?"
"I think it's like Emily? That's what Scarlett said. She's on the same floor as her." Said vinnie.
"Huh Well Im sure we'll see her around." I said
We continued to eat and all of a sudden Scarlett came over to our table.
"Wait it's not your floors turn." Said vinnie
"Yeah well I'm showing the new girl around.
Everyone this is Emily."

I waved.
"Hey. I'm Harper."
"I'm vinnie."
"I'm chase. I'm also new here."
She smiled.
"Cool I hope to see you around."
"Okay now we're leaving bye losers." Said Scarlett.
"She's so pretty oh my gosh." I said
"Chase man she totally likes you." Said vinnie.
Chase started to play with his food.
"I Don't think so. Plus I'm not looking at the moment. I just got out of something."
I could tell that made him uncomfortable. I felt bad.
"Hey Chase why Don't we do to the gaming room for a bit." I said
"Vin we'll be back."
I walked with chase down to the game room.
"Sorry, vinnie is a bit much. I can tell that made you uncomfortable." I said
"No it's okay. I promise."
"Can I tell you something?" I asked
"Yeah sure what's up?"
"When I was a kid and I first got here, when people would ask me why I was here I would just ignore them and walk away, I just couldn't talk about it without crying. One day this girl asked me and I told her because I just needed to vent to someone, when I did I felt so much better. I know it sounds corny but next time someone says something like that explain to them what happened."
He gave me a faint smile.
"You're right. I should probably do that."
I could feel this becoming the beginning of our friendship.
