Chapter 9
"Daddy, I thought you was gonna be here so that we could talk about the dress!" I huffed angrily.
"I'm sorry baby girl. We'll talk when I get home." My dad offered.
"Whenever that is." I mumbled before hanging up the phone.
I don't even understand why he wanted me to come over this weekend. He ain't never here!
"Uggghhhh!" I yelled out.
I tried to call Chase but he was busy with his family. I was truly alone. I hate being alone.
To subside my boredom I decided to search through Instagram. Of course I headed to the Shade Room first. That lead me to the Kylie Jenner Challenge hashtag. I immediately got disgusted at the fact that black people was doing the challenge. That's stupid to make they soup coolers even bigger than what they already are. Luckily the doorbell rang when my disgust reached its peak.
I took my time walking to the door because I wasn't expecting anybody. Whoever'a at the door couldn't possibly be that important.
"What are you doing here?" I spat when I saw Khadijah standing on my dad's porch.
"I'm not hear to apologize if that's what you're thinking. I could apologize a million times over and you still wouldn't forgive me. I did something stupid and neglected to tell you. I can't change that. We can't go backward but we can certainly move forward." She said, extending her hand for a handshake, I'm assuming.
I stared at her hand contemplating. For a split second I thought about what would have happened if Chase wouldn't have forgiven me. That was enough to sway my thoughts.
I smirked before placing my hand in hers.
"I've missed you sooooo much!" She said pulling me in for a hug. When we pulled away I noticed tears running down her face.
"What are you crying for?" I asked with a giggle.
"Prom is next weekend for us and I haven't started preparing yet. I thought you was gonna help me shop for prom but with the fight and all, I was just lost." She explained. "And to top it all off I don't have a date!"
"I thought CJ's friend Sean was gonna take you?" I asked.
"CJ has had it out for me since you cut him off. So he's spread around the hood that I'm a hoe. I don't know what he's been telling people but whatever it is, it's bad because people come down on me worse then they've ever did on Dominisha." She bawled.
"It shouldn't be like this. If I would've never tried to juggle two dudes we both wouldn't be in the position that we are now. I'm sorry Khadijah." I apologized, hugging her once more .
"Girl we young. We're supposed to make mistakes." She said.
"We gotta promise to do better though." I resolved. She nodded her head in agreement.
"So can we start planning for my prom now?" She asked hopefully.
"Of course." I said with a smile.
"Cool. Let me run to my house and grab my overnight bag. This finna take all night." She said with a laugh.
"Aye Dee!" I called out after her. She turned around. "Don't worry about a date. I won't let you go alone. I'll be your "date"." I offered.
"You'd do that for me?" She asked, truly stunned.
"Of course! Now hurry and go so we can get started." I shooed her out the door.
After she left I took the time to call Chase to tell him my plan. I hoped he wasn't too busy to answer the phone.
"Wassup boo?" He answered on the first ring.
"I miss you." I cooed.
"I miss you, too. That's why I was about to call you. My mom and dad took those family members up north to visit my granny so I'm free now. I can come spend the night with you if you want me too." He informed.
"I would love that, papi." I said, cheesing uncontrollably. "I have something I wanna ask you but we can discuss it when you get here."
"Alright. I'll see you in a minute, Ash."he said before hanging up.
Since I was having all these visitors, I thought it would only be right for me to cook dinner. I decided that the easiest thing to make would be tacos. Chase was doing good as my cooking instructor. Cooking isn't as hard as it seems. I love being in the kitchen now.
I was halfway through preparing the tacos and neither person had arrived yet. I looked at my phone and saw that I had a text from Khadijah. She was telling me that her mom had disappeared and left her younger siblings unattended. I told her we'd get together in the morning. I then called Chase to see what was keeping him.
"Where are you?" I asked him.
"I'm sorry boo. Don't be mad at me. The team invited me over. Imma come by -"
"Don't bother. Have fun. We'll talk later." I said before hanging up the phone.
I was a bit salty that I had cooked and had nobody to share it with but then I'm like "two monkeys don't stop no show". I fixed me some tacos, grabbed some chips, salsa and a soda and went and sat on my dads front porch.
It was a warm summer evening so everybody was outside. I hit my Spotify app on my phone and was vibing to my Being Mary Jane playlist while enjoying my food.
"I knew you couldn't stay away from the east side." I heard CJ's familiar voice say.
I looked up at him and smiled. He was not finna kill my mood.
"Now why on earth would I want to stay away from you? How are you today, CJ?" I asked him, my words dripping in sarcasm.
"You got jokes today huh?" He asked, using his tongue to toy with his lip ring.
"Something like that." I said with a smirk before dipping my chip in the salsa..
"You got some tacos for me?" He asked. I contemplated and then opted to not waste food.
"Sure. Let me make you a plate." I said. He followed me inside the house into the kitchen. He leaned against the counter as I moved around the kitchen fixing his plate.
"You look good, N'shae." He said, surveying my movements.
"Here you go." I said handing him his plate.
I sat down at the table to finish eating.
"You not gon' talk to me, N'shae?" He asked after scarfing down his first taco.
"What is there to talk about?" I asked him.
"The fact that prom is next weekend and you promised to be my date." He recalled. I froze, inwardly chastising myself for making that promise.
"That was before the confusion and besides I'm going with Khadijah." I revealed to him.
"Why you going with that hoe?!" He snapped.
"Why you black balling her around the city?" I shot back. "She had very little to do with our split. Yeah yall messed around but putting you at fault the most because you're my man!"
"So I'm still your man?" He asked with a cocky grin.
"You were my man. But that's all in the past now, CJ." I assured him before getting up to wash plate off.
"Oh really?" He said, walking up behind where I stood at the sink. I froze as he placed his hands on my hips and lowered his lips to my neck.
"Tell me you can resist." He whispered hoarsely as he pushed up on from behind.
"I ca-..."
