Will's pov:

I turned in front of the mirror, examining my new clothing. I was wearing a pale blue sweater and beige pants. Nothing impressive by human standards, but I like them.

      "You like them?" Y/N asked.

"Of course! I never..." The words died on my lips. I shouldn't tell Y/N about my lack of experience with clothes.

"Never what?" They tilted their head, their e/c eyes gazing at me curiously.

"Never been in the Gleeful mansion before!"

"Hey, what's your name? Sorry, I forgot to ask that."

      "...William."

"William." Y/N repeated the name to themselves. "Hey, William, did you find anything, uh, strange in the pool?"

Why were they asking about that? "N-no? Why do you ask?"

      "It's nothing." they replied hurriedly.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't nothing, but I let it slide. I need to come up with a way to spend time with Y/N.

"Do you need anything else?" Y/N asked.

"Can you show me around town? I-I'm new here, and you're the only person I know..."

      "Sure, William."

Excitement swelled inside of me. I was going to the town for the first time. And with the one I love most.

-Timeskip brought by me singing "We Don't Talk about Bruno"-

My eyes widened when I saw the town. Children ran around the village square, interweaving in the paths of pedestrians. Shops showcased wares in colorful displays. Adults conversed at street corners, talking excitedly about something.

      "It's beautiful." I whispered.

Y/N turned to me, giving a little grin. "Yeah, it is. It's perfect to go when you want to be by yourself."

They grabbed my hand. My cheeks heated up.

"C'mon, let me show you around!" Y/N exclaimed, their face in a big grin.

Everything became a whirlwind. Y/N treated me to the pastries from the bakery, showed me a magician performing magic tricks, an art gallery, a farmers' market, a community garden, and all the other popular attractions of the town. Each one was more exciting than the last.

It was evening when we left our last location, a park. The sun was lowering into the horizon, casting pink and orange lights across the sky.

"So," Y/N said. "How do you like town?"

I smiled. "It's amazing. It's unlike anything I've ever seen."

They gave a little grin. "Thanks. Anyways, I should get home."

"Wait!" I grabbed their wrist. "Can I-I stay with you? I don't have anywhere to stay, and you've been welcoming to me."

Y/N hesitated for a few minutes. I fidgeted, afraid that they weren't going to let me stay.

"Sure," Y/N said. "Just...don't go anywhere near the pool."

      "The pool? Why?"

"Uh, the pool needs to be cleaned, and Soos doesn't like it when anyone disturbs him."

I nodded, although I was curious about Y/N's odd behavior. Sure, Soos doesn't like it when anyone asks him for something. But what could Y/N be hiding in the pool?

That question bugged me as Y/N and I walked back to the Gleeful mansion.

I eagerly waited for Y/N to come to the dining room. I wondered what activities Y/N had planned for us today. Maybe we could go to the garden or have some more pastries. I would gladly do anything, as long as Y/N was with me.

Y/N walked into the dining room, a matching pair of bags beneath their eyes. They yawned when they sat down next to me. When the mansion staff asked for our order, Y/N mumbled softly.

"Are you okay, Y/N?" I asked, placing my hand on theirs.

"Yeah, just had a rough time sleeping." Y/N yawned again.

I frowned. What could be bothering them that would keep them up at night?

"Y/N, you don't look so well. You have to be careful, or those bags will ruin your complexion," Mabel said as she entered the room. She glanced at my direction and gave a smirk. "Y/N, who's your friend? I would love to make his acquaintance."

"This is William," Y/N introduced. "William, this is Mabel."

      "H-hi." I waved.

Panic rose inside me. What if Mabel recognized me? What if she started humiliating me? I know Bill enchanted me for no one to recognize me, but I was a little nervous.

      "Hello, William," Mabel purred.

I breathed a sigh of relief. Now I just had to make sure Mabel doesn't flirt with me.

"Anyway, Y/N, don't forget that we have to go to a party tonight. It's at McGucket's place," Mabel said.

      Y/N groaned.

"Y/N, why must you always hate parties? It's not like it's the worst thing in the world."

      "They're boring," they replied.

Mabel shook her head and sighed wearily.

When she walked out of the room, I turned to Y/N. "Why don't you ever skip these parties if you hate them so much?"

"My grunkles will hate it if I don't go to these things. They're like 'Y/N, our family is the fanciest, you have to go to these things, it'll ruin our image if you skip them, blah blah blah."

They gave a little smile. "At least I had someone who got me. Who knew what it's like to be the odd one out."

      Who was Y/N talking about?

I was about to ask when Y/N said, "Hey, what if you come to the party with me? I'm sure it'll be more fun if I bring a friend. I mean, if you want to come with me."

"S-sure!" I started blushing. "Yeah, I'd like to come to the party with you. I mean, not just you, there's going to be other people there too, and uh..."

      "You okay, William?"

"Yeah, I'm fine!" My cheeks flared brighter.

Ok, Will, I thought. You only have two days left. Try to act normal.

Or you'll never see them again.
