guys ik I totally didn't write about diagon alley, but it's fine cause I didn't want to have to do the whole wand thing. just imagine you have whatever wand you want😅. okay on with the story!!Your pov:
When I stepped aboard the Hogwarts Express, there were so many sights and sounds. Children yelling to their friends, prefects trying to calm them down, frogs and cats and owls running up and down the aisles, students frantically chasing after them.I made the mistake of stopping in the middle to take it all in, and almost got bowled over by a girl who looked to be my age with bubblegum pink hair.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry, here let me help you with that." She said kindly. She grabbed my hand luggage off the floor where it had fallen when she ran into me.
"Oh thank you so much. and don't worry about bumping into me," I laughed, "happens to everyone." I followed her to an empty carriage.
"Right you are, friend! I'm Tonks by the way." She stuck her hand out to shake. I gladly took it.
"(y/n) (y/l/n). Are both your parents witches?" I asked. I wondered if many of the children here were also of muggle descent.
"Yeah, why are yours not?"
"No my mum is a muggle." I shrugged. "Not that it matters much to me, but I've heard that other people care about it."
"Yeah there are some people that wouldn't be so happy that you're not pureblood." She said darkening, "but luckily I'm not one of them!" She suddenly brightened. "Hey, (y/n). Wanna see something cool?"
I eagerly nodded my head, and watched in shock as Tonks' hair changed from bright pink to lime green then to sapphire blue, before finally settling on a soft lavender color. "Wow!" I breathed. "That was amazing! How'd you do it?"
Tonks beamed. "I'm a metamorphagus! That means I can change my appearance at will! I'm still practicing though, and my hair is the only thing I've mastered." She sighed sadly.
I tried to cheer her up. "Don't be sad, that's really cool!" She seemed to be in better spirits after that. After what seemed like a while of talking about anything and everything, we finally got to the topic of school.
"I really hope I get into Hufflepuff," Tonks said, "they're the most hardworking, and I think it would make my mum proud."
"I'm not sure what house I want to get into. Hufflepuff seems great, and I want to be with you cause you're my only friend so far," she smiled and nodded at that, "but to be in Gryffindor, with the bravest of the brave, or in Ravenclaw with the cleverest would be awesome too!"
Tonks wrinkled her nose. "Anything but Slytherin. My mum's side of the family is all Slytherin and she doesn't like them at all."
I nodded in agreement, but when I turned away my face held a look of despair. What if I got sorted into slytherin? Would Tonks hate me too? I can't loose her already, she's the only friend I have right now. Well, there's also charlie. But he clearly didn't want any part of me.
We settled into a comfortable silence, with me reading and Tonks staring out the window. She turned her head to look at me, and was peering very intently at the cover of the book I was absorbed in.
"What book is that? I've never heard of it." She said. I sat there shocked. Lucy Maud Montgomery was one of the most famous authors out there, and I was shocked Tonks hadn't ever heard of Anne of Green Gables.
"It's Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery and its my most favorite book ever! How have you never heard of it, Maud is famous all over the world!?" I said, closing the book and keeping my finger between the pages I was reading. "My mother gave me this copy for my 8th birthday."
"Maybe she's famous all over the muggle world, but I've never heard her name." Tonks replied, shaking her head. That's when I really realized how different the two worlds were. Yes there was the obvious difference, magic, but the culture was also different. The music, books, and general life skills had grown to be two very different groups of people. I found this fascinating.
Just as we had settled back into silence, there was a knock on the carriage door. I opened it to find a plump witch who was shouting good-naturedly, "anything from the trolley dears?" I looked at the feast of snacks, ranging from chocolate frogs that really jumped, to licorice wands that shot sparks, and tons of other sweets that I couldn't even fathom what they did. I was shaken out of my daze by Tonks pushing past me in the carriage doorway and promptly spending all her money on sweets for the two of us to share. I felt slightly bad, so I offered to pay her back. she just shook her head and said it was a welcome gift from the wizarding world. I chuckled and dug in, sharing some cauldron cakes with (c/n).
A while after we had tired out ourselves eating, and (c/n) was taking a nap, a bell rang in each of the carriages. I looked around confused, but Tonks stood up like she knew what to do.
She turned around to face me, "my parents told me that when we were nearing the school, a bell would ring to inform us so that we could change into our school uniforms." I looked down and realized I was still in what would be considered 'muggle clothes'. Tonks looked at me. "well (y/n), you coming or not?"
I quickly nodded and grabbed my things out of my bag. I patted (c/n) on the head as we left, whispering to them "I'll be right back." They purred and stretched out where I had just been sitting.
I followed tonks down the aisle, and after we had done changing our clothes, we really looked the part of witches, on our way to learn. "Oh merlin I really feel the part of a Hogwarts student now!" Tonks said, brandishing her wand.
"You sure look it!" I said, laughing at my friends behavior. On the walk back to our carriage, we passed a group of kids playing a game I later learned was exploding snap, and among them was Charlie and his older brother, Bill. I waved at them as we passed. Bill looked at me and nudged Charlie. When he turned around he half-smiled and waved back.
After we had gone, Tonks turned to me and asked, "Who was that?"
"The Weasleys, my dad is work friends with their dad." I said shrugging. We made our way back to our carriage, and found that (c/n) had made themself comfortable on the top of Tonks' hand luggage, preventing her from putting away her muggle clothes.
"(c/n)" I coaxed, "c'mon, get off the trunk." When we finally removed her, Tonks was able to put her things away. By that point, we could see the rolling hills that made up the Hogwarts school grounds up ahead in the distance. We clambered to the window, and watched in awe as the huge Hogwarts castle eventually came into view.
"Woah." Tonks and I breathed in unison, then giggled cause we couldn't believe we were actually here. We quickly managed to gather our things and waited patiently by the door for the bell to ring again, signaling our arrival to the school. I had (c/n) tucked under my arm again.
When we finally heard the chimes of the bell, it was very hectic in the aisle. People shoving to get out first, prefects trying to control the mob, and all sorts of animals, not just cats and frogs and owls, but rats, bats, and I swear I saw a hawk come flying from the back of the train.
Me and Tonks tried to stay together but the crowd was too rough. I called to her that I would meet her at the sorting ceremony, and let myself be pushed along by the crowd.
