The fifth time he saw her, she just sped past him at the mall.

He wouldn't have registered her face if it weren't for the complete lack of emotion in it. His mind had been set on saving time and taking the shortcut through the mall was a decision made thereafter. It startled him to see her there, so out of place. It wasn't her passing him, it was a shadow of her, a lifeless and unhappy form of her.

Her friends had been chit-chatting loudly, seemingly unaware of their friends broken state, and it made him wonder if they were actually her friends - or if they just kept her around.

"That dress is so you! That guy is totally hot! You should buy this! Starbucks, anyone?"

If that was the case, he knew exactly what she was going through.

He couldn't say that he was surprised. Sure, startled at first, but when he hurried away again he understood and sympathized with the situation. She was yet another pretty girl who in reality didn't want to cause any big commotion - and therefore obediently following along the masses without really caring what they did.

After all, he thought, she has enough commotion in her life as it is.
