Nightpaw's Blindness

"Nightpaw, are you coming hunting" exclaimed Flowerfur who was crouched near the entrance, eagerly waiting to bound into the lush forest. "I'm coming" yelled Nightpaw who was sharing a thrush with his sister Wildpaw, "I'll ask Flowerpoppy if I can join you" Wildpaw says as she got up and raced towards the medicine den, then walked out again, drooping her tail. "I have to do chores around camp" she explained "that's OK maybe another time" he added as he pulled himself up and walked towards his mentor

Flowerfur walked out into the forest with Nightpaw tagging behind her, Nightpaw opened his mouth to scent the air, "what can you scent" asked Flowerfur kindly at her apprentice, "Thrush stale fox and rabbit he said proudly, and he got into the hunters crouch and silently crept forward without making any noise, he scented the air to see what was closest, rabbit he thought eagerly. Flowerfur was watching him closely since only a few days ago he fell unconscious in camp. He kept creeping forward until he spotted two brown ears, I'm not messing this up he thought. He got ready to spring when the rabbit shot out and started pelting through the forest, he followed it without stopping to intercept bushes and trees. Nightpaw knew he was nearing the Spiceclan border, he leapt forward and felt a loose grip on some brown fur. Nightpaw had managed to grasp the rabbit's hindquarters and went for the killing bite. The Rabbit scored its claws across his eyes and a horrible pain seared through him. The rabbit snagged free and pelted away. He let out a painful screech and dropped to the ground, left in blackness. 

Soon after he heard footsteps, "Nightpaw", Flowerfur screeched, and he felt her press against him. "What in the world of StarClan happened" she asked worriedly. " Can't see, Rabbit, scratched eyes" he mumbled, "Nightpaw, we need to get you back to camp right away", "I'll just bury my thrush" she walked away and came back " we have to get you up" called Flowerfur as she tried to sit Nightpaw up. He opened his mouth and tasted a familiar scent, more cats. "What's going on here" called Tigermoon as she pushed her way through some brambles, followed by Palepaw. "Nightpaw" exclaimed Tigermoon as she raced toward him, he felt Palepaw press against his flank. "He was blinded by a rabbit" answered Flowerfur . "We need to get him back to camp" Tigermoon said. Tigermoon and Flowerfur each stabled him and lead him back to camp. Palepaw had raced ahead to warn the medicine cats, so Nightpaw only heard the footsteps of Flowerfur and Tigermoon. They neared the entrance of the camp, and scented Leopardash standing on guard. "What happened to Nightpaw" asks Leopardash worriedly "No time to explain, he needs to get to a medicine cat" snarled Tigermoon, hurrying forward with Flowerfur. "Firestripe, Flowerpoppy" cried Flowerfur, still supporting Nightpaw, the two she cats carried the black apprentice into the den and carefully placed him into a prepared nest and Flowerpoppy  hurried over with herbs in her mouth, Firestripe checked his eyes, Nightpaw tried to open his eyes, "I can't see" he wailed, Firestripe  examined his eyes, "there swollen, we better be quick"...... he trailed off and Nightpaw could scent his sister Wildpaw entering the den. "Nightpaw" she screeched, Flowerfur tried to comfort her, but she ran to her brother's nest "is he blind Firestripe" she asked worriedly "We have tried our best and there is nothing else we can do" he added sadly, Knowing, Nightpaw remembered Firestripe's sister was blind so he knew, "The rabbit's claws would have been dirty so there is a possible chance" explained Firestripe, "Do not give up yet Nightpaw, there could be hope".
