"Either way, we're not alone. I'll find a new place to be from."
- I know the end, Phoebe Bridgers

"Last night in St Louis, 4 roommates were killed in a rental home in what police are calling a robbery turned homicide." Garcia started off the discussion grimly.

"It's brutal." Alvez said.

"Yeah. Looks like the two sides of his brain were fighting with each other. Left side wanted to rob the place, the right side wanted to cause some destruction." Simmons observed from the other side of the table.

"Yeah, but both sides got exactly what they wanted." Rossi added.

"What was taken?" Asked Spencer.

"Nothing traceable. A computer, tablets, cash, jewelry, and the like."

"How long was it before local PD called us in?" Tara asked, you wondering the same thing.

"They didn't." Linda Barnes said walking in the room, eliciting distraught glances from around the room. "I called and offered our services to them, because this is exactly the kind of case the BAU takes from here on."

"Maybe it's just me, but I need a little help understanding our new case selection criteria." Rossi said voicing a concern you knew that just him didn't have.

"We want cases with good optics that are also quick and easy to clear. Here we have 4 victims, young upstanding professionals, all of whom the public can emotionally invest in. The crime itself is contained, and the motive appears to be determined." She continued.

"The M.O. is pretty straightforward. Their hands and mouths were duct-taped and they were stabbed repeatedly." JJ diverted.

"I see the unsub left a knife. Were there any prints?" You asked.

"Negative."

"With this many victims, it could be a team." Alvez suggested

"Right. Shouldn't rule it out." Spencer said.

"You're right. Ok. Wheels up in 20." JJ stated, making you miss Emily even more for some reason.

"Meet you on the tarmac." Barnes said, nodding her head as she packed her things. You scoffed causing her to look up at you.

"You're going into the field with us?" You asked trying to remain neutral.

"Yes." She stated, clearly knowing we'd all have a bit of a problem with it.

"No offense, but you're not a profiler." Rossi responded.

"True, but I have worked in the field, and a fresh set of eyes might be useful. I know you think I'm the enemy, but I'm not. I can be your greatest advocate if you'd let me. Now, you've had some poor leadership in the past, but I know I can help right the ship." Oh hell no. She did not just say that about Emily, even if it was indirectly.

"No. You're wrong. Emily Prentiss is not a poor leader. She defined what a unit chief should be. I'm not going to stand here and let you destroy her career like this. If you're going, I'm not." Spencer said, leaving the room quickly.

"Spencer!" You called out grabbing your bag. "I'll be right back." You said turning to look at JJ, but you caught Barnes out of the corner of your eye. "Or not." You uttered with a fake smile towards her before following Spencer out of the room. "Hey wait up!"

"Don't try talking me out of this, y/n. I've already made up my mind." He said sternly.

"Oh fuck no, I wouldn't dream of it. I'm coming with."
