'I can't believe it!' Stella said.
'Me either guys, but... Why don't we talk about something else?' I said trying stop this useless conversation.
'Well... Now that you say so, there's a party we can go to.' Sophie answered.
'Great!' I said gladly, 'where?'
'Adam's' they all stared at me.
'What? Let's go.' I spoke firmly.
'Sure?' Rachel asked.
'Yeah, why not?'
They stared at each other.
'You don't have to avoid Adam, or Cam, just because I have boy trouble.'
'Sure?' Peyton asked.
'Yeah. Totally. As long as I stay away from beer, I won't do anything stupid.'
We laughed. When we arrived to the party, we were surprised to see Adam drunk, and Cam completely sober. I mean, form that inseparable duet, usually Adam's the sober one. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a drawing I couldn't see clearly, broken jeans, and black DC shoes. Cam, on the other side was wearing a white t-shirt, what seemed like brand new jeans, and clean sneakers. Evidently, something was wrong.
I dialed Cam's number.'Hi babe!' He said as if nothing had happened.
'Look, I'm like 20 feet away from you, in the front yard. How can you be sober and Adam completely drunk?'
'Wait, what? Look, he's fine, OK? He just wanted to have fun.' He said turning his attention to our direction.
'Yeah, I can see that, but you had to get him like that?'
'God, stop worrying, you're the one why he's doing this, you know?'
I bit my lip.
'No I'm not! Chloe was the one who tore us apart.'
'Well, then I guess we both have girlfriends who keep important secrets from us.'
'You know what? Go to hell!' I hung up on him.
'What was that about?' Sophie asked.
'Nothing. Just Cam being a total ass.'
'Okay, but you're not broken up right?' Bailey said slowly.
'No, we're just in a fight, why you ask that?' I asked Bailey confused.
'Well, you guys have been dating for almost two years now, it would be a shame if you like... broke up now just because your dad appeared.'
'Yeah, but, he just... I mean... Yeah, you're right, but I shouldn't be the one apologizing! I didn't do anything wrong, okay?' I said not believing even my own words.
'Well, as you said earlier, we're not here to discuss boy trouble, so let's leave those two alone and go enjoy a bit, how about that?' Peyton said incredibly secure about what she was saying. The rest of the night I didn't even notice Adam nor Cam. I had fun with my friends and danced so much I had to take of my heels.
'Bye Rachel, thanks!' I screamed while I got out of the car. My hair was crazy, my voice was pretty tired, my makeup had moved, and my shoes were in my hand. My typical party ending look.
When I stepped inside the house it was already about 4 or 5 am, I didn't expect my parents to be awake. But again, I was wrong.
'You don't know anything about her! Parker and me moved on and created another family with John, Riley, and you're not in it.' My mom's tired voice came out from the living room.
Riley was lying where I left her earlier that night, at the bottom of the stairs. But this time, crying.
'Riley? What's wrong? Why are you up so late?' I said sitting next to her and placing her head on my lap.
'She can't stop screaming' she whispered while bursting into tears.
'Mom? Aren't they over yet?'
'No! And why is it so difficult for mum to forgive him?'
'I don't know. Maybe she's still upset with Alex. We have to give her time OK? Alex's a great guy. I know she'll come around.'
'Parker.' She said with that sweet innocent voice of hers, sitting up.'Will you promise me something?'
'Of course!' I answered stroking her hair. 'Anything'
'Promise me that no matter how ugly things get between you and mom and Alex, that you'll never leave.'
'Leave where?'
'With him. Your dad'
'Oh God, Riley! Look, he may be my father and all, but I would never leave mom, or you, ok?'
'Okay.' She said as I hugged her tight. Because right there, in that messy confusing situation we were going through, she needed someone to hold her, protect her, and made her feel safe.
