Part 1 — The Eternal Empire.
Since its inception one hundred years ago, where it was formerly known as the Sorcerer Kingdom, the Eternal Empire's reach had grown to cover most of the New World. Effectively becoming the one and only superpower that ruled them all. An uncontested hegemony.
Its might —economically, diplomatically and militarily— had long since been proven. Time and time again, the Eternal Emperor, Ainz Ooal Gown, had defied the odds. He and his servants had demonstrated wisdom, intelligence and power far beyond mortal comprehension.
Though rare, a few nations still enjoyed the boon of independence as a reward for their prior services to the Eternal Empire. The most notable of those was none other than the Baharuth Empire. As the first nation to ever swear allegiance to the then Sorcerer Kingdom, it had been granted the right to keep its semi-independence for as long as its ruler's legacy —Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix— remained in power. Also, if rumors were to be believed, another reason for this exceptional exemption from merging within the Eternal Empire found its source in the deep and everlasting friendship between the two rulers. Though, nobody had ever confirmed it.
Aside from those rare independent states, the vast majority of old nations had been merged into the Eternal Empire — most, of their own accords. The Dwarf Kingdom had been the first to petition for its incorporation, followed not long after by the Roble Holy Kingdom, as a close second — source of numerous banter between the two regions.
Of the remaining countries that had neither been incorporated nor granted the right to self-govern, their names had simply disappeared from the map. Conquered by the might of the Eternal Empire. For example, such was the case of the late Kingdom of Re-Estize, the first official conquest of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Or of the Argland Council State, home-country of the first major coalition that tried to stop the geographical expansion of the then Sorcerer Kingdom. Or of so many other smaller states and regions that had thought wise to resist, and would, as a consequence, fade away from memories in a few more generations.
Although, there was one exception. One instance where a country had neither been merged, conquered nor granted independence. A single, grim example of the folly and hubris of mankind, of the arrogance of those who thought they could rebel against a Supreme Being. A solemn lesson for the ages. The infamous case of the Slane Theocracy.
The human supremacist nation was no more. An entire country rendered asunder by the wrath of the Eternal Emperor. A disaster of unprecedented scale, a divine condemnation on a national level. The assault had been as swift as it had been cruel and brutal. In the wake of the tragedy, only rubles of the once thriving society remained. The Slane Theocracy was now an inhospitable wasteland, one of everlasting death and rot.
No attempt at rehabilitating the land had ever been considered. It was not something mortal could even approach safely anymore. Perpetual acidic rains poured down their highly corrosive substances all across the ruined nation. Decades after the fact, immense flaming tornadoes still raged on, propagating inextinguishable fires and scorching the land. Thunderstorms of red and black lightning, that of which smite the very soul, loomed over every corner. Monstrosity of legendary might roamed the land, forever lost, hunting for anything to satiate their bottomless appetite for slaughter.
The Slane Theocracy would forever be remembered. Not as the last bastion of humanity as they once hoped to be, but as a nation of absolute fools. Such destruction — their destruction — shall never be forgotten. Not by the land. Not by the people. Not by the very gods themselves.
And from the blood, the tears and the ashes... from the tragedies and catastrophes... from almost a century of battles and conquests all across the world, of diplomacy and politics... a utopia had been birthed.
