Triggers: 'Era-typical' 1980s homophobiaRobin had an awful, awful day at school. Most days she had a lot of classes with you, but on Fridays, you only had one morning class together. Those tended to be the hardest days. In the social hierarchy of high school, you were around the same level as her, however, you were a lot more outspoken, not wanting to take anyone's shit. Robin was a band kid, and you were in the Hellfire club, and that didn't exactly earn popularity points.
Robin chose to ignore the taunts thrown her way, and you did too when it came to your own taunts. But if you ever heard a bad word against your girlfriend then you went off on one.
It's one of the things that she loved about you, though sometimes it got you into trouble and she would have to remind you that they weren't worth it. She recalled the time when one of the 'prom queen' types kept kicking the back of her chair whilst she was trying to finish off an essay. You sat at the desk next to her, as you did in most of your shared classes, so obviously, you noticed the tormenting occurring.
You let it slide for a few minutes, trying to do what Robin said to do and ignore it, but when another kick came harder, earning a grunt from Robin as her stomach hit the edge of the table, you'd had enough. You stood harshly, earning the attention of the class as your chair scraped across the floor.
Robin looked at you with wide eyes as you looked down at her and tried to shoo her out of her chair, ignoring the calls your teacher was making for you to get back into your seat. After a few shoves from you, Robin reluctantly stood and watched as you gently tucked her chair in and turned around to look at the girl sitting behind.
"What are you doing?", Robin whispered, and you just stared the girl down who didn't seem to be backing off, only leaning forward and resting her head in her hands, almost as though she was challenging you to make your next move.
In one swift move you had shoved her desk into her, making the teacher screech yours and Robin's name across the room.
Detention.
Though it wasn't completely futile as whenever you had a class together they left her alone. Friday's though... they were a different ball game. You were aware of this fact, but without being in the same class as her there wasn't a lot that you could do. Highschool sucked.
The people who had hit their peak ruled the place, and the people with substance were made to feel small and worthless. But Robin didn't feel that with you. You made her feel like she was at the top of the world just by looking at her.
Her eyes would usually sparkle on Friday afternoons when she headed over to the deserted corner of the school parking lot and saw you leaning up against your car's passenger door, waiting to open it for her. But today had been especially hard, and people had been especially mean.
So, when you saw her and flashed her your normal cheeky grin, she smiled back but it didn't quite meet her eyes. Your face immediately softened and you took a few steps forward and held your arms out wide, which she promptly walked into. You held her tight and rocked back and forth slightly as she inhaled your comforting scent, and you whispered reassurances into her ear.
When you felt her tense body regain some calmness, you pushed her away by the shoulders lightly, but kept your hands there, to evaluate the situation. She looked tired of everything, so you smiled and opened the passenger seat door for her. Like you did every day after school.
"Thank you", she giggled and slumped onto the car seat, giving you a smile when you were settled in the drivers. You smiled back before letting out a small puff of air, "Is there anything you wanna talk about?".
