"That's a p-pretty cool ride n-not gonna lie."
Amy gave Toby an impassive look before flouncing away on Brian's arm and I giggled behind my hand, watching the long bedazzled stretch limo pull away from the entrance.
GG had arrived just after we did and she had done so in style. Her dress was a seductive shade of red with a plunging neckline and her jewelry sparkled brightly under the artificial lights as Viktor, a tall European boy with a cropped military-looking haircut, took her hand daintily and lead her to the entrance. He'd transferred to our school last year and though he was good-looking he was still largely unknown, at least to me. All I knew was that he played soccer and he was apparently good at it.
Norma had exited the limo after her with their own date, the cute new recruit whose name I still didn't know, and when I grimaced at them, Toby took my hand leading the way inside.
We neglected to stop by the neon 'Prom' sign that had been garlanded with flowers, where everyone entering had been urged to take a picture with their date.
The auditorium was decorated in white and gold with banners advertising the theme and a few chairs were set up close to the stage that would later be cleared to open up the floor for dancing and socializing, activities I wasn't sure I even wanted to partake in, anymore.
It would all be an act, anyways.
The smell of different perfumes and hairsprays wafted by me as I worked my way through the bodies waddling around in their clacking heels and rented tuxes, and as I approached the stage, Principal Warner made his way up, tapping the microphone to get everyone's attention.
I listened to him launch into a speech for close to ten minutes before I finally lost interest and I was about to continue my search for Amy when I bumped into a body.
I took a step back to realize it was GG.
She scowled at me, like usual, Viktor gripping her arm to keep her steady on her feet after the collision.
Ever since that incident in the bathroom where she was left sprawled on the floor like a dead bug, she'd been avoiding me and Amy, but we saw her efforts.
She hated us and was working harder than ever to boost her popularity, more determined to get back at Amy by getting the title of Prom Queen.
It was fun to watch her struggle for some kind of relevance. I myself was still more on the sidelines where all of this was concerned but if she wanted to play dirty I could show her a thing or two.
"Watch it," she hissed, turning up her nose in disgust as she gathered her train and walked away wordlessly.
Toby, who'd been following me to my left, took a step forward to go after her and I held out a hand to stop him.
She wasn't worth the effort, besides, I still needed to find Amy.
Using my big brain, I figured if I spotted Hoodie I'd know where Amy was since he was a big guy and pretty hard to miss.
Just as I started scanning the room, the speech ended and everyone was cheering. I got on my tiptoes, drowning in fabric as I tried to look over their heads when I spotted the gentle(ish) giant over by the punch bowl.
