The frost of November mornings had finally begun to set in, replacing the dew on the grass. The warmth made me surprisingly relieved to walk into school. A rare occasion. That relief quickly sours into annoyance, though.

The football team was being swamped by students, who were discussing the highly anticipated rivals game tomorrow night. It was Inanimate High vs. Island High, everyone cared about it. Well, except for me, I suppose, other than selling the tickets at higher prices to stupid suckers who fall for it. Though, through glancing at the crowd, I saw familiar platinum-blond hair, Baseball. I sigh, weaving through the teenagers before reaching him and tapping his shoulder.

He spun around, doing a double take before glancing down at me, "Oh, hey Nickel! Are you going to the football game?"

"I suppose, if you're going," I shrugged, having to speak louder over the other voices, "We should get out of here, though-"

"I was just about to!" Baseball grabs my arm to lead me out of the crowd, which is very helpful, with him being much taller than me. But I'd be lying if I said it didn't send a shiver up my spine.

Finally we popped out of the wall of people, and regained our breath. We meandered through the halls for a bit, heading to our classes.

"Should we bring Suitcase along, too? It would be her first football game at this school, I believe."

"Ugh, I guess," I sigh. We walk in silence for a second.

"...but?"

"Gah, I just... I feel like she's still mad at me, but is just holding it back and being polite..."

"I'm sure she's fine, Nickel," Baseball lays a hand on my shoulder "you were super tense that day, though. I don't think I've ever seen you that stressed over someone."

Something was bubbling in my chest. I let my hand cover my mouth, "I'm just worried about her, and Balloon, you know how he can be. If not destructive of others, then destructive to himself..." It was

"Yeah, I feel you," Baseball nods, "but, I mean... he does seem... better?"

I stay silent.

"I'm starting to think that Suitcase is bringing out a better side of him," He sighs, "I feel like this whole song and dance about hating Balloon is getting old-"

"Yeah, well I'm not over it." I interrupt him, balling my hands into fists, "I need to protect her, she doesn't know any better, and I swear if I see Balloon go near her again..." The pit in my stomach grew.

Baseball goes quiet, and then just nods.
