It was around summer time, the time in which the young boy would visit his grandparent's house, outside of town, at the village. Rushing to get all his clothes packed, even though his mother told him not to touch anything, because she alone would have him all fixed up.
"Caleb, Caleb stop hopping around like a rabbit upstairs, and come down to eat your breakfast!" Shouted his mother from the kitchen.
"I think I especially told you, not to touch anything, I will pack your stuff while you eat your breakfast. Now come here! The last thing I want you to do is, go at their house and jump on food like a rabid dog." She finished with a low tone, not wanting him to embarrass her infront of the in-laws.
Caleb eventually came down to eat, the energy was a bit turned off however, after all he was a big boy now, he could and most importantly, wanted, to pack his own stuff. To decide what clothes to take, which slippers and what books to read while at grandparent's house. I bet that omelette was about to put a smile on his face though.
"Don't forget, change your shoes for when you go out of the garden, I don't want you ruining this pair. And if you decide to go out on slippers, make sure to put socks on, okay?"
"But mom, who puts socks on slippers in the mountains?" Questioned Caleb with a ponder on his face.
"There are dozens of plants on the ground that will scratch your small feet, or are you feeling adventurous and looking forward to infections?" Brought his mom to an end with a grin on her face, as if she knew that, she had taught him a lesson.
She then left him eating and proceeded to pack his stuff up. After a few minutes Caleb's father showed up and asked if he was ready to go.
"Just let me drink up my milk Dad, I will be out in no time."
"There, there, do not rush through the meal and hurt your stomach. We have plenty of time. Eat carefully, stop making a mess and giving your mother a hard time cleaning after you. You are a man now!" Smiled his father, gazing upon his son, proud and thankful.
The time of departure came and after embracing and kissing his mother he jumped on the passenger's seat and couldn't wait. Filled with joy and excitement, he was heading to his grandparent's house.
And how could he not like that place? His family was originally from the remote area, in the Highland villages. Although he was born and raised in the city, he was no way near to be called a "city boy".Climbing trees, catching birds, making wooden swords, crying after his birds would die in captivity, not realising they were wild sparrows not fit for a cage life... these were some of his occupations during his childhood days. So a trip and a vacation at his grandparent's house was initially, him in his "natural habitat".
"So, my son, here we are?"
"Are you not gonna come in, Daddy?"
"No, I am just going to turn the car over at that bridge, tell them I said hello. Plus, if your mother is not busy later on, we will pay you a visit in the evening and spend some time with them aswell."
"You are not going to take me home with you, are you?"
"Haha, no Son, ofcourse not. Now jump out and go have fun. Remember, don't be a burden to them and behave yourself!" Said his father while Caleb already started running towards their house, with his backpack on.
"The joy, of the joy", that's how a grandparent would describe their grandchildren. His, were particularly delighted whenever he showed up at their doorstep.
After having seen them and having eaten his favourite cake, that his uncle's wife always bakes for him whenever he visits the grandparents, it was time for him and his adventurous spirit to get out and explore.
