Cole's POV
I walked in the door with Agent Johnson at my side.
We had just completed our mission. That makes it sound cooler than it is. We sat in the car watching a person for a couple hours. We gathered intel. Boring.
"You're back." Director Reid didn't seem happy to see us. Or rather me. "Do you have the information you were sent to get?"
"Yes, sir."
"Very well. Agent Johnson, you are dismissed. Cole, a word please?" It wasn't really a question.
"Yes, sir." Loving life at the moment.
"I have a new assignment for you. You will be going on a trip to Chicago tomorrow to meet with a colleague of mine. Dr. Matthews is expecting you to meet him at three o'clock sharp, at the aquarium. He will give you your assignment and anything else you may need. Also, please try to make a good impression. Your flight is scheduled for seven in the morning and you will land at ten thirty and be taken to the hotel. You will be there for one week. Any questions?"
"Will one of the other agents be going with me?"
"No. This will be a solo mission. Good luck." With that he turned around to face his computer and I walked out of the room.
As I was walking down the hall my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out of my pocket and checked it. Raelie. She wanted me to go to the mall with her. What she didn't say was that her boyfriend would be there too.
I sighed and signed my death wish. Almost immediately she replied and I was going to meet Raelie at the food court in the mall in an hour.

"So, what have you been up to?" Raelie asked, way to cheerful in my opinion.
"Nothin' much. I leave for Chicago tomorrow though."
"Why are you leaving? How long will you be gone? Will you ever come back?"
"I'm only going to be gone a week, chill. So yes, that means I'm coming back."
"And again I ask the question: why are you leaving?" Well, I can't just tell her I'm an agent. Smooth self. Forget an alibi. Um...
"I'm going on order of my boss... and stuff." I mumbled.
"Oh. Well, then, lets go shopping!" Figures. She doesn't even care I'm leaving.
Whatever.
"Hey, where's your boyfriend?" It was weird not having someone following us as we walked through the mall.
"Oh, he had somewhere to go with his family. I think. I stopped listening at 'I have somewhere to be'. Whatever. Now we can have a girls day!"
"Alright."
"Let's go. We desperately need a girls day only, anyway." Off we go. Catch the sarcasm?
Four hours and ten shopping bags later, we exited the mall. Nine of the bags were Raelie's. Mine was a small bag holding the latest book I thought looked interesting enough to buy.
"So, where to next?" Raelie asked.
"I was about to head home. Rest up for the trip. Normal stuff. I still have to pack, too. I'll see you when I get back."
"Won't you have your phone with you? You could always text me, ya know." Please. She wouldn't answer me if I was dying.
"Sure."

At home I threw seven random pairs of clothes in a suitcase, added some comfortable clothes to sleep in, and grabbed the toiletries I wouldn't need in the morning. Then, with nothing else to do, I ate a quick dinner, set my alarm, and went to bed.

The alarm went off at 5:00. I sighed and climbed out of bed. After getting dressed, eating and doing one last check to make sure I had everything I threw the suitcase in the car, I asked Johnson for a ride to the airport.
