It's the beginning of the school year, I thought to myself, it's time for a new beginning. Yeah right, I thought scornfully, that's what I said last year, and the year before, yet nothing ever changed that I, Edith B. Zulmfild was a complete and udder klutz.
"But this year will be different" my mom promised. "I donno," I said my voice clearly showing my doubt. "Hurry, you'll miss the bus" my mom probes.
[10 minutes later]
"Bye mom!" I say as the doors hiss close. I head to the back where I usual sit, as usual, it's empty. I stare out the window, not expect anyone to sit with me. "Can I sit here?" Someone says. I continue to stare out the window, "Um... hello?" I turn my head and see a boy my age with brown eyes and blond hair staring at me. "Me?" I said slightly surprised that no one was warning him, that's when I noticed something, everyone was staring at us. "Sure" I said, all but counting down until someone told him, no one did. "Hi" he said, "I'm Ocean." "I'm Edith" I respond.
"Cool name"
"Uh, thanks, yours is cooler"
"Thanks." We spend the rest of the ride in silence. At school we all get off and head to our homeroom, Ocean and I both have Mrs.Dillon first.
"Welcome to the first day" she says groggily, "First we will be choosing lockers, we don't have that many so you'll have to share and there are uneven boys and girls so they have to be a boy or girl sharing a locker." she states as she grabs a piece of paper from her already paper covered desk. "Okay first up, Macy, is there anyone you want to share a locker with?" After that I stopped listening, the last person was gonna get stuck with me because no one would pick me. "Edith?" She said, catching my attention, "Are you ok with sharing a locker with Ocean?" She questions, "Sure" I say as I stand and take my stuff outside and put it in the locker by Ocean's things. Turns out we have all our classes together.
