chapter 12 rotten tomato

back at the palace

nearing his eighth month, gulf wandered around his kitchen at his wing. hes preparing for a lunch with the emperor. hes been feeling like himself over the couple of months already but mew only allowed him to stand long if he was to remain at his wing. with that he offered to cook him his lunch which mew gladly agreed. he missed his wifes cooking.

he was placing the last plate on the table when he felt his stomach harden. his breath hitched as if he was in pain but all he could feel was numbness and tightening around his stomach. this was the first time this happened but when he finally felt his little one move again and pushed his hand through his dress gown, he smiled and sighed a long one.

"i know, little one. moms a bit tired from cooking but dad will be here any moment and i bet hes all hungry." gulf chuckled as he cradled his bulging belly. unknowingly to him, mew saw him by the door as he talked to their little heir. he smiled adoringly at them and he felt giddy at the idea that soon enough theyll have someone to chase around the palace.

when gulf attempted to finally sit down, his stomach tightened again resulting him to hold it.

"uh.." gulf whimpered. its a bit tighter this time and a bit long. maybe he really was tired.

seeing whats happening, mew ran over to his wife and held on to his back and hand to assist him to his seat.

"oh, your back, your majesty." gulf greeted.

"forget about me gulf. are you okay? are you hurting anywhere?" mew said in panic. he saw him wincing.

"im fine. just a bit tired, love." gulf replied as he leaned back to his chair relieving that heaviness he felt on his feet.

"that's it. youre not to cook anymore than omelettes. youve made more than enough this time, my dear. i dont want you to get so tired." mew told him off as he caressed his mates portruding belly. he was a bit annoyed for the fact that his mate enjoyed cooking so much it tire him and resulted to this moment.

"im sorry, love." gulf caressed his mates worried face and smiled at him, making him smile as well. "im just excited that i could finally step foot in this kitchen once again and be of service to you somehow. i just missed this so much, love. the kitchen is where i remember my mom the most. im sorry for worrying you."

"fine. okay, but this is the last time, okay? if you very much like to be in this space, have bastil or even mild assist you. speaking of, where is he by the way? i havent seen him for the past few days."

"i've given him a time off. he went back to that young master where he came from saying hell help search for some of our friends from the village. hell visit my sister as well. i made him promise to come back before i went into labor though. i wont have you be the one ill smack hard when the time comes."

"you know ill take that beating anytime, love, when it comes from you only though." gulf laughed at that.

"i meant it as a jest, my love." gulf said in-between his chuckles. "ow!"

"thats enough laughing for you, dear. our little one might think i tickle you too much." mew said with smiles in his eyes. he really loves seeing his mate this happy. how much more when their little one came?

a month passed and only days to gulfs intended due. the old duke, his sister and mild had already been housed in the palace together with an army of physicians and medicine people. gulf saw this as too much but given that hes an empress and the one hes carrying will be the future emperor or empress of the land, mew would not give in to just a mere few attendants.

as per the old dukes advice, gulf was to excerise or in this case walking for a bit of time every day. with a little squats and bouncing on a big round stretchy ball, courtesy of the old duke, it was meant to ready him for sometime of labor that he was meant to go through. gulf admits that what the old duke said scares him but for the happiness that awaits him, hell do anything to get this little one out for the whole world to see.
