As an mage its my job to command the stars. Who do they think they are being so big, bright, and horribly unreachable? You can see them! Up there making me look bad with their awe inspiring beauty and radiance, disgusting! I hate them all!

This is not a good day for mages... This is a very bad day for mages. It's been one thing after another today! First they send out their minions to attack us. Then they send out those two in particular, you know who they are, and even though they were supposed to be on our side we had to kill them. And then the commander has to go and ruin it by giving my father orders that I don't agree with and now I have to run all over town gathering supplies while he sits back in his office and lets me do all of the work. I'm sure he thinks this whole thing is funny, but I know better than anyone how important these preparations are. If we're going to make a stand against the heavens then we need every bit of knowledge we can get before we venture out into enemy territory, space. That means that I am more essential here than he'll ever understand. Even if he does command the stars. Well, that's just too damn bad! I've had enough of him.

So I won't take any nonsense from him or any of the other idiots down in the capital because let's face it, most of them don't really care about the people, or the stars, or their atrocities, just themselves like the petty mortals they are! So when they start getting on my nerves I give them a piece of my mind. And I mean I tell them exactly what I think of them. I don't hold back. My mouth gets so used to saying things that most people only dream of having said to them. I'm in no way ashamed of myself, of course I'm not. It's the truth, and I say it as bluntly as possible. Sometimes I even throw around some profanity just to make it clear that I mean business. How else will they understand hypocrisy they've wrought?

I'm kind of surprised I haven't gotten into trouble for it yet, especially since I usually yell at the top of my lungs right in front of everyone. The commander might be able to overlook some of it, but he doesn't want me to talk to the villagers like that. Which, understandable, I may take it a bit too far sometimes. But I have to speak up. I have to let them know that I am not simply an extension of their will. That I'm the lead mage here, that I'm the only one that can stop the stars from making us all dance like puppets to their silly radiant game. They won't listen if I'm being quiet. I have to let them know that I'm not afraid of them. I'm not scared of what they can do to me, I'm not scared of what they can do to my body. I don't need this body, I could have a new one, a better one in a day. What matters is that they can't hurt my spirit. I am a force to be reckoned with, and they should be very afraid of that.

They're probably already terrified of it...

"What's wrong, Mother?" I asked, she's leaning over her desk reading a letter, an intensity to her gaze. This was unusual behavior, normally she'd be a little more subtle. "You seem upset."

"The commander told me that he wants to send scouts out towards the stars," she finally sighed, setting the letter down and looking up at me.

"Is he a mad man? We haven't perfected the neutralizing beams yet!" I yelled. "We can't possibly risk sending them out there until we have the tech to keep them safe."

She nodded, staring at the floor. "He says that our research is progressing faster than expected, and that we must send out some of our own people in order to prove that we can protect the rest of humanity like we promised."

"Screw the commander! He can't make this decision without me." I grumbled. How dare he just breeze past me, like I was below him? He needs to remember that I'm the one who's been fighting these monsters for years. "We can't put our people at risk like that. We need to wait until we have the ability to defend ourselves against the stars."
