Lee, Shin
The rest of spring semester didn't get any better after Shin and I ended up being partners in Statistics class. We would occasionally have to work together. Which would require us to converse and I'm using that term in its loosest possible definition. When I say converse I mean, I would speak and get a one-word reply. If I got a reply at all. Shin was like a walking cold shoulder.
I mean, I get it I'm not the most approachable person, but dude was next level with the rudeness. As you can imagine he and Jae became literal sensations at school. As their popularity grew, I became more obscure and more infamous.
Why infamous? Because I happen to be sitting too close to the school's Prince in some random class photo. I didn't really understand why he was so popular. I guess I could see the appeal. He was fucking gorgeous for sure, but Jae Young was much friendlier and more outgoing.
That picture was the start of some really awful shit that went down. I mean the photo wasn't even all that. It's not like we were doing some sloppy French kissing or some other nonsense. Nope. It was just a pic some kid from the school paper took while we were working on a project. It just so happens that I was sitting pointing at a book and he stood over me with his side touching my shoulder.
How in the hell can anyone say that photo was anything but two students at work? Well, someone did. When that picture hit the school webpage, the comments were off the chain. I ended up being doxed. You would swear that I insulted Beyonce on her internet. I would never. Shin isn't even worth it.
I wasn't new to being bullied. In high school, I'd have the odd asshat wanting to take out their bullshit on me. But I'd also never had it done on this scale. I couldn't go anywhere without people staring at me and whispering.
People kept sending me the most awful emails and letters. They even spray-painted random shit on Sal's diner wall. Eventually Adonai and I had to move off campus. It was hard and trust me my mind went to some dark places. All this over a guy I didn't even like. So, I kept my head down and once the year was over the noise died somewhat.
