But I can see us lost in the memory
August slipped away into a moment in time
'Cause it was never mine
"Are you sure?"
I asked her as I extended my hand hoping she would hold it.
"Never have I ever before." Ris answered as she stared deeply into my eyes and walked ahead as I got completely lost in the feeling of her seeing me, not just looking at me.
"Are you sure?"
"For the millionth time, Ela, I said yes."
She said as she rolled her eyes and held my hand again, just like the first time. It was a routine we got into that one summer when everything changed. The summer where the hopes of "us" blossomed into more than a mere feeling. That one summer when all we got lost is in time and the memories we share.
"Ris, for the last time, are you sure?"
I know something was wrong. I can feel it in my gut.
"I'm sorry, Ela, yes."
She looked at me trying to catch my eye.
"Yes, I'm sure that I want this to end, whatever this is."
I can still feel her looking at me but I can't. So as soon as she turned her back, I watched her slipping away just as fast as every August did.
