Intro

I'm Nattily Newman.

I'm Leanna Landers.

We're taking turns.

Like, each line?

Yes. Like this line is me, (Nattily).

And this line is me, (Leanna).

Yep. So let's talk.

About what?

This is just the intro.

Okay... So...

Well...

Uh...

Just say stuff about yourself.

Okay... I live on a ranch in Casper Wyoming?

Good, now keep that up.

And I have a horse named Midnight.

And I live on a ranch in Casper Wyoming as well.

And I like hanging out with horses?

And I have a horse named Cassie.

Okay... so is this the whole story?

No! This is just the intro! Okay, but let's wrap this up before we weird them away.

We don't know how many chapters this book will be...

But even if we had a million chapters, we wouldn't be able to tell you the whole story!

Well...

Umm...

Uh...

It's complicated.

We've been friends since age 11.

Not just friends.

We're...

BEST FRIENDS!

I waited until I heard the bell ring. I was on my dapple-gray Quarter Horse-Mustang mix mare, Cassie, waiting to enter the Rodeo arena. We were watching this girl and her pitch black mare run around the barrels. She was good, but me and Cassie believed we could do better. I waited for the bell to ring. I felt Cassie tense, and I gave her the signal the second the girl passed the line. We raced for the arena, I pulled back and waited to have the judges permission to enter the ring. The woman nodded. I moved all my weight to the front of the western saddle and gave Cassie the signal to run. I've been racing barrels since age 3, and Cassie was an expert at any competition. She burst out of the starting line and raced for the left barrel. We swerved the first barrel, making sure Cassie's nose faced the barrel the entire time. We fled for the second. I stared in between my horses ears and smiled at the next coming barrel. We rounded that round, tin-can like thing and headed for the next one. We spun around the final barrel like it was nothing! Until we gave it a small tap. I bit my lip, I didn't want to get disqualified! But when we ran around the rest of it, we stopped it from knocking over. When we flew across the finish line, I felt amazing! I pat Cassie on the neck, telling her she did a great job.

"Good girl, Cassie," I whispered. I heard our time. I couldn't believe it! Both me, and the girl on the black mare had the exact same time! 17.78 seconds!

I stared at the girl. I knew it was rude, but I couldn't help it! I was sure she felt the same way.

I untacked Cassie until the next and last event, pole bending. I loved poles! I simply loved them! I loved the feeling of weaving through tall, white, sticks poking out of the ground. I smiled at the thought. I put Cassie in her stall and decided to go talk to the girl. She seemed nice enough. She reminded me of my friend, Ally. Tallish, skinny, long, blonde hair, and soft eyes that sparkled in the sunlight. I jogged through the hallway and over to the bleachers. I slipped around all the people and walked over to her.
