The Tape
years in the future from 'New Beginnings'...
Lukash walked up the trail. His gun slung over his shoulder, earlier that week he got a radio message saying he was free to join the CS again, and he had thought about it for a few days before deciding he was best returning to his friends. His home...
He let his mind wandered in thought as he walked past many familiar trees, it felt good to be back. But even though Lukash was joining the CS again, he wouldn't be there long, he needed to find her...When Lukash finally seen the light of the campfire ahead someone called for him.
"Oi! Lukash!" A man shouted to him smiling, cracking open what seemed to a can of cider.
"Yeah! Over here!" The other man called to him, Lukash couldn't help smile as he approached the camp. One of the men patted on a chair next to him, inviting him to sit down. He had dirty blond hair tied into a loose bun and an empty eye socket.
"Hey..." Lukash mumbled, setting his gun down as he sunk into the chair.
"Great to see you back mate!" The one-eyed man told him, patting his shoulder roughly as he chugged down more of his cider. Valk remembered these men, they were practically brothers, he laughed slightly as the other man spoke up."You too!" He was alot quite than the one-eyed man, that's what Lukash liked about him, quiet, but deadly...
"So... how've you been?" The man asked, lighting a cigarette and offering one to Luk, who refused. It wasn't he didn't smoke, but he needed a clear head for what he was going to do.
"Good... I guess...""Great to hear buddy"
Lukash breathed in and sighed. "Look, I know I've just appeared again, but I need to go find someone..."
"Hmm? Who would that be?" The one-eyed man raised his eyebrow, opening another can of cider."Sasha. Sasha Verdus."
The people surrounding the fire went silent, before one of them spoke up. "Her?" The quiet man asked.
"Yes..."
"Look man I know she was yer friend..." The one-eyed man started. But was cut off by the quiet one, who was nearly yelling at Lukash.
"That's crazy man. She's dangerous!" He exclaimed, flailing his hands for exaggeration.
"I know Angus" Lukash snapped, he never meant to but he needed to find Sasha, bring her back. It was silent for a while after that.
"If ye want to find her... she was last seen going south." One of the men told him, he let out a breathe of relief before nodding.
"Cheers man.. see you later then" Lukash began to pack his stuff as he spoke, he took his flask and filled it with water, slinging his gun back over his shoulder and nodding to his friends.
They nodded back, Lukash turned on his heel and walked back the way he came, this was it. He was going to bring her home...
He looked down at his compass as he watched, the tiny arrow pointing south, great. Lukash turned his head up to watch the sun fall below the trees, he had spent the entire day walking, but he didn't care... he was nearly there.
Wandering through the woods, something caught his eye. A building. The real thing that had Lukash intrigued was the fact it had light coming from it. Had he found her?
Lukash unsling his gun, approaching the building, the light was faint and was coming from the second floor. The door was unlocked when he tried to open it, it creaked rather loudly as he cursed under his breathe. If she was here, she would try to kill him meaning he needed to surprise her. He looked around the building, it seems to have been used as a hide out, a filthy mattress on the floor, Lukash nearly tripped over a box with other supplies in it. Although a horrid stench filled the air, and with the amount of flies too he hoped what he was thinking wasn't true...
He climbed the flight of stairs with his gun aiming infront of him, nearly gagging at the smell. And found where the light was coming from, it was a TV. Static playing from it, and a tape on the floor with a note on it, Lukash picked it up."Huh... what's this?" He mumbled quietly, inspecting it before reading the note.
'Dear Lukash' it read, weirdest thing to him it was in her handwriting..."For me..?"
Staring at the tape for a few seconds, before staring at the TV, it had a portable tape player attached to it. He went to put the tape on before freezing, could this be a trap? It made sense for her do fool him like this, use their old bond to her advantage, but since there was no one here... and Lukash could use her trap to his advantage instead, he put the tape in the player, it started to play.
On the screen was a man, a mercenary by the looks of it. Something was off though, he looked scared, staring at the camera with wide eyes, he was also covered in bruises too and a rag was covering his mouth. Lukash noticed the merc on the screen was tied to the chair he sat on. Another person came onto the screen, is was her. She didn't have her mask on as she usually would,
She stood behind the merc, who flinched as she lay her hands on his shoulder. She smiled at the camera...
"Hello luk! Great to see you buddy..." She smiled at the camera as she spoke."Sasha?.." The names rolled off his tongue without him even realising, Lukash watched the screen in disbelief. Was it really her?.. Sasha stopped leaning on the merc's shoulder and took out something. A knife, taking it out of it's shield she showed it to the camera, it was the one Lukash gave to her as a gift.
"I remember you giving me this, you know... Before..." Sasha cut herself off, staring at the blade. The merc bound to the chair let out a small whimper. She stared at him before showing the merc the blade, his eyes widening further...
"Well, because I'm generous... I left a gift for you too, Lukash.." She said to the camera, smiling... Lukash didn't trust her smile, but couldn't help but to look to where she pointed off screen. Switching his torch on to see the supposed gift.
Covering his mouth to stifle the surprised yell, he backed away from the corpse. It was the body of the merc on the tape. That was where the smell came from, he looked around... a sharp pain on his head before it went blurry...---
He opened his eyes, confused. Where was he?
As he stood up, Lukash looked around. It seemed similar to where he was when he watched the tape... but there was something off, he continued to stsre around, the corpse was still there. But the TV was smashed and looked broken beyond repair... He walked over to the table, a book was on it with another note.
"For you Luk :)"Sighing deeply he opened the book, and a picture fell out. He stared at it, a picture of sasha and him, but his face had been scribbled over. He turned to the next page, it was adressed to him but only repeated one phrase, all over the page, in big and small writing and the person who wrote it seemed to have been trembling. The words all repeated 'I'll kill you'. Frowning, Lukash closed the book and sighed, he looked out the window, before taking the book, his gun and bag and walking down the stairs and out the door.
His legs were aching as he walked past an old farm, a few buildings scattered over an acre or so of land. It looked empty, so he strode up to it. One he was in he went upstairs to set camp, he couldn't think straight and was exhausted, so he ought to set camp here for the night and continue tommorow. But he seen something which made him freeze...
Her...
She stood on the roof of the other building, staring at him, Sasha was smiling holding something in her hand. She stayed silent.
He stared at her, she stared back, what was she holding? She threw it down to him and he picked it up, it was wrapped up and as Lukash undid the wrapping, he dropped the object.
He felt his stomach turn as he tried not to vomit, It was a bloody, mangled head. He stared at her, she had her mask on, but pulled it off and threw it off the roof she stood on. Her eyes were glowing faintly, a pale white. But her eyes were brown...A blood curdling shriek filled the air and Lukash jump back, taking his knife out on instinct. He stared around too see were it came from, he stared at were Sasha was but she had disappeared. He then looked down at his feet... The head began to make a terrifying face and screamed again...
Lukash gasped loudly as he woke up.
"Shit!" Lukash yelled out. He was breathing fast, it was just a dream, he told himself over and over, it wasn't real...
He slowly got out of bed, still tired. Making his bed something caught his eye.A tape...
Signed by her, to him...
