Pain

Pain is a strange thing,
One moment it's not there,
In the next you're feeling like collapsing into yourself,

And no matter what pain we have,
we try to hide it within our shadow,
The dark part of ourselves that too often tries to grow larger than our colourful bodies,

No,
This black part does not grow out of us,
But grows from words we are taught
and from an Imagination's playground,

It is not bad,
But healthy,
Without it,
We are not human,

However,
Those of us who don't have another light to shrink our shadows,
Will never see our colourful bodies again,

Healthy darkness is something that can fade into a memory,
That can be put in perspective,

For those whose shadows will never shrink,
It will never be a memory,
It will be a way of life,

But,
It is no way of life.

It is survival of the longest night.
